Buggane: Moleman from Hell

Buggane: Moleman from Hell image

In Manx mythology, a Buggane was a huge ogre-like creature, native to the Isle of Man.

Bugganes were said to be covered in black hair, with claws, tusks and a large red mouth. As they were known to tunnel underground, they might be said to resemble a giant mole, though they were intelligent and spoke to people on occasion.

This guy basically wants to claw your face off, and he’s good at it.

As always, criticism is appreciated.

Word. I just never know exactly what to do to make the artwork look like it belongs on the shirt so I try something basic. Haha.

    Thanks dude.

If anybody doesn’t like it, let me know why. I’m definitely up for suggestions, and I’m really not sure of the colors.

Thanks Jimmy. When I first came here it had been a long time since I really did any illustration. I’m starting to fall back into the groove, and I’ve had a bunch of help from some really talented folks along the way.

I really love this, just not sure about the background color or the shirt color. Maybe a white shirt to make the design pop more?

This is great Nick! Not too sure about the background element though. Maybe try another shirt color too?

Thanks guys. AJ, I’m clueless about what to do in the background. If you have any suggestions let me know!

Here’s some different shirt colors, though:

I like the green, but not really sure how many people would actually wear it. I like the grey/charcoalish color and white the best.

I think maybe I’ll stick it on grey. It would save the printer a color. Cheap is good. lol

    With, or without the splash?

Also, SittingDuck thought my anatomy was off. I think my drawing the hair may have made it look funny for some reason. If you’re interested here’s the pencil drawing of the human form I based the guy on:

Also, I guess it would help to note that the veins were a stylistic consideration, and not meant to be anatomically correct. I’m considering changing that, though. If it would help the illustration.

Well, the whole anatomy isn’t necessarily meant to look realistic. I see it more as a mythological creature, so realism is kinda out the window. But it definitely doesn’t look cartoony, I get more of a comic book feel from it.

I’m not sure on the splash, I keep going back and forth.

Also, do his legs/feet stop underneath the hair, or is it supposed to be continued?

Yeah, I really wanted the comic book feel. I just remember reading some back when I was a kid and the guys were huge and veined out. It was pointed out, however, that those veins were drawn going in the right directions. Haha.

I like the splash. Unless everyone hates it, I think I’m keeping the splash. lol

I missed this question earlier, somehow. Nah, he’s supposed to go off of the bottom of the shirt. I actually filled in the hair a bit more on my design, because I didn’t realize that I had it that far up. But, yeah. The feet were going to be out of the viewing area, so I didn’t do them.
