It looks to be some sort of three of four tone painted on deal, with alternating light and dark for the edges to get those sexy curves. Dark base, mids and highlights, then flipped to get the opposite effect. hmm In theory flipping shadows and lights would just change direction. At any rate you are doing what you are doing quite well.
