<body>At work they just gave me my old G4 power mac, I was going to buy a G5 imac but now I'm not sure I need to.

The G4 doesn't have an OS on it and I'd say it's at least 6 years old, they were going to shit can it anyway.

G4 POWER MAC
1 GHZ/256MB - I'm pretty sure we upgraded the memory
60 GB/COMBO DRIVE
17" flat monitor

vs.

G5 IMAC
2.93 GHZ/4GB
640 GB/ 8X LAYER SUPER DRIVE
24" built in monitor

What do you think, soup up the G4 or go ahead and grab the G5 IMAC and use the G4 as an extra computer?</body>

<body>The new iMacs are so frickin' fast. We got to test drive one in the office and I couldn't believe how fast it opened up files that usually take 5 minutes (no joke) to open on our older computers. Also, having a monitor that large is really luxurious. I say you go for it.</body>

<body>thanks guys I think I might just use it as a scanning station or something.

It's pretty exciting to hear that the imac is that fast, I have files that take for ever to open on my pc and it's really starting to get in the way of me getting work done.</body>

<body>the g5 imac isn't fast. the intel imac is fast. i mean, the g5 is a lot faster than the g4. i guess it depends on what you're coming from. does cs3/4 even run on the non-intel imacs? maybe cs3 does, but does cs4?</body>
