<body>Mine is a cautionary tail full of text and irritating bruises and bumps.

A story why not to aid in the brief relief of boredom.

The myths and legends regarding the Quakerninja are as varied as the colors of a summertime sunset. One myth hails that there are indeed more then one all carrying the same name, and that they form a collective whose reach far exceeds the four corners of the internet. The continuity of this fable lends itself to skepticism from the more cynical nay sayers.

While playing a drunken late night game of Texas holdem in a saloon yonder way, I overheard a conversation regarding the peculiar Quakerninja. It was a cold one with rumors abounding of exploit and spender.

As the story goes.
The Quakerninja having lost his way stumbled upon a shack in the woods just north of here, an old man rambled. He was dressed to the gills in tattered rags fit for a hobo king. Finding the shack early barren of anything useful save for a dusty book and the remnants of a fireplace he went about gathering burnables and with a stealth befitting a feline bagged a quick dinner of an unlucky rabbit from the surrounding area. After a brisk meal he sat down to read. Flipping open the book he found it to be completely devoid of pages at the center.

Where his story should have been was instead a green glass vial of enticing design, filled to the brim with something or other. Being no shy creature and no stranger to drink of all sorts, down the hatch it went with never a second thought.

The Quakerninja having done this soon realized that he had a hankering for something more to eat. To his surprise no sooner had he thought it then there before him was a banquet, complete with fine china and more courses of cuisine then he knew what to do with. Having had his fill in haste, he became tired and wondered what he ought to do for bedding for the night. A warm goose pillow would be fine if I had it he shrugged as he lay his head on what he thought would be a cold dirt floor. To his glee his head was met instead by the very thing he had hoped for.

Now seeing this as some sort of special gift and not wanting to squander it with foolish sleep, he set his mind to other things. A fine horse as to not have to walk or run would be dandy and so it was. A fine rifle, and steady work on a whim they came to him. A wife to call his own and a proper home came soon after. His wife was as loving as any could be, and his friends multiplied.

It was clear to all that met the quakerninja that he had a gift of giving. Generals would ask for victories, and kings for peace in there kingdoms. The request became more often and bizarre, heal my chickens they would ask him and strike my enemies with lightning. This went on for sometime until one day he was visited by an old man. He said "I am here for my goose pillow please. Puzzled and a little annoyed the quakerninja produced the pillow and gave it up. I can think of many things greater then a pillow he shrugged. Later the old man came again, this time asking May I please have back my Wife.

I suppose by now you can imagine the moral as having something to do with Being carful what you wish for, and easy come easy go.

I should bring this back on topic, This is an example of an oral tradition in Africa where I grew up. An elder would have some sort of problem and rather then a lecture the story would be told in more clever fashion.

The fables of briar rabbit are a good example. These stories would be remembered as best they could and retold, but never written down. The stories would get more elaborate as time when on and become a real ceremony. People were puzzled as to why there were no books or scrolls or anything. What they did not realize was that the images in the mask and art held the stories better then words ever could. Sadly this and many of the other arts I grew up with are starting to diminish in Africa as the modern world takes hold. This pretty warthog of mine is just my homage if you will. It could be a starting point to a tale of an underdog or and ugly duckling that finds beauty after a hardship of some kind. It's really up to the moral you are trying to get across how the story is to be told.

Thats the long version anyway.</body>
