Inking/Linework

posted 2 months ago by captiveclothing

Who does all their inking and linework the traditional style with pen and paper?

What kind of pens do you use to get smooth lines?

What resolution do you scan it in at?

What other adjustments do you make after scanning?

I use a regular/cheap sketchbook, and Micron pens.

I am not a pro at digitizing them though, i’ve just started trying in that area of design.

I use Micron pens too, but I think the key is to use good paper. Canson Marker paper is great stuff... doesn’t bleed at all and it gives you a nice, crisp, saturated line.

Regarding the scanning/coloring, I have a Photoshop coloring tutorial for that.

i used Copic markers for awhile, and was blown away by how awesome they were, but after about 3 months they all exploded on me. so now i’m back to Staedtlers and Microns as Copics are really expensive.
i’ve been working on Blue Line Comic book boards, they have a variety of widths, but its just basically a nice piece of bristol.

I am a bit scared of my Copic markers right now. But for now I am pretty satisfied with them.
I often outline directly in illustrator with a Wacom and some self-created brushes.
