a old design from ages ago, aint done anything with it. decided to use it to do my first ever bit of shading and highlighting (and also my first ever time of actually using my wacom since I bought it).....just wondered how everyone thinks the shading and highlighting looks?
any tips for better success?
BEFORE / Unshaded:

AFTER / Shaded:

Any Suggestions to better my shading / highlighting?

looks good, sub it somewhere, Snorg would love this, or Threadless, or woot. This kind of simple cute, is as popular as zombies and skulls. I think you will do really well as you continue to develop.

thanks I appreciate it - your getting a lot better yourself too....I love the Vomit Waterfall one of yours....sweet as pie!
I still think this one would be missing something before thinking of subbing it anywhere...

i think the main problem a lot of people have with shading is that it gets used too much. Im guilty of this myself alot of the time. this looks ace with the subtle shading. keep at it dude. :D

how do you print with shading? is it considered another color? or do they just darken the color?

to me, the shading, and lighting MAKES the design, not having any sort of shading or lighting makes the image look REALLY flat and im not really a fan of that sort of design unless greg abbott made it.
this is good though, definitely sub it on threadless :]

you dont even know.

no, you dont darken the color. What you do is use the colors you already have ... the black could be used as a halftone for the shading, and a creme halftone for the highlights. He didnt even technically add a color to this.

no actually for this i did use darker and lighter hues of the same colour. How would I make the halftones for shading and highlighting to keep the colours down....anyone?
