Ive been looking around for a little while to find who im going to host my website through.
But im still unsure on who to go with, i have a few hosting sites in consideration but im still not 110% set on one.
Any suggestions on who to go with???
Thanks,

www.dreamhost.com is what I use and havent had one single problem
awakendesigncompany said 3 months ago
thanks for the input everyone. i really appreciate it.
i like the pricing at first glance of dreamhost, havent looked at the details yet though.
do you have to pay for your domain with dreamhost or do they provide a free one with certain packages???
ithew said 3 months ago
im pretty sure its free

I dont recommend IX Webhosting!....
Although they are nice, helpful and cheap....you get wwhat you pay for.
weve been with them for about 6 years...and they have a lot of short sporadic down time.
mainly if someone on your shared server is busy....your site will go down.
and they do not offer dedicated servers, incase you need to grow.
you will need to move to a new company.
plus if you are running a ecommerce store...other than oscommerce....their mysql and database is suspect...we had a lot of problems...with server errors.
Media Temple is A+ for our new servers.

Anyone else have any other ideas for who i should maybe go through???
I need to get one up and running asap.
Thanks for your alls inputs already, it means a lot!

I use GoDaddy, Im sure there are cheaper out there, but theyre reasonable and their tech support is phenomenal

Another vote for Dreamhost here. Ive used them for a couple of years, and not really had any problems, except for that time they charged their entire customer base millions of dollars by accident, of course (they were really sorry though, so its ok).
And if its the same as when I signed up, you get a domain free with any package, and its free as long as you keep your hosting package, if you move away I guess youd have to move the domain to another domain service, or just dreamhost for the domain whilst hosting it elsewhere.

As goofy as dream host ads look theyre about the best hosting site ive seen that is in my budget range.
And yeah you still get the free domain name. which is great!

Also just wondering for those of you all who use dreamhost.com
or any other hosting sites,
it says this: "Operating System: Debian Linux"
Can i still use that with a PC/Windows OS
Im still VERY new to anything like this and i have no idea about all the technicalities.
So any help with that is much appreciated!
hideyourarms said 3 months ago
Im no expert on this kind of thing, but I think that the Debian Linux part is that their webservers are run on Linux.
Im using Windows XP and I can use their services just fine, maybe Im missing out on something by not using Linux myself, but I havent found it in the past two years of hosting.

Thats what I use.
awakendesigncompany said 3 months ago
Cool! they seem really good.
im still in the deciding process, i got back and forth on my choices day to day haha. so ill eventually find someone to settle on lol.
okay, great dude!
i appreciate that. i feel better about hosting and stuff now that that is cleared up.

i use netfirms.com and have never had a problem.
awakendesigncompany said 3 months ago
Wow! thats one of the best ive seen so far.

Remember to google "*chosen webhost* coupon code" or "discount code" or something like that before buying your hosting. Its such a competitive market that webhosts are desperate for your business and have some great coupon codes.
I guess youd have looked for coupon codes anyway, but I thought Id better mention it since I got 50% off my first 2 years hosting (it cost less than a dollar a week!).
awakendesigncompany said 3 months ago
thats awesome!
thanks so much! im gonna look into that right now actually.
awakendesigncompany said 3 months ago
I have narrowed it down (currently) to 3 different hosts. 3 being the worst, 1 being the best....
3. www.netfirms.com
2. www.1and1.com
1. www.dreamhost.com
Netfirms: I like what they have to offer with their packages. But the pricing is right at the top of my budget.
1 And 1: Like the pricing a lot and features, i just dont know if its to good to be true. (anyone host through them???)
Dreamhost: Like the pricing, like the features. Heard great things about it.
So anyone that knows about webhosting, critique those 3, or recommend someone that is better even.
Thanks for everyones input, its helped a lot!

I know that a web design and technology company local to me host all of their clients sites on 1and1, and according to them a lot of people use it. Ive been on there quite a few times, and tbh, i like the professionalism of the site and whatnot.
So id go for them i think....although that may not be the most useful thing to know lol
awakendesigncompany said 3 months ago
Very helpful man, thanks!
They run really close for what im looking for, but i think dreamhost offers me a little more for just a little more money.
*oh and the coupon codes are working out beautifully :) thanks dude!
