Im all self taught, althought Im going to Cal State Fullerton right now and havent even taken any graphic design classes yet. Im still working on them mother fuckin' GEs.
Sonne said: i go to college at a small school in Ohio...but our graphic design program is a joke, so im basically self-taught
Same here, except I graduated 3 years ago and mine was a small school in Florida. They had a program for "Digital Art", and although its the closet thing to graphic design.. it was crap.
City College Coventry! And just starting Uni this year... at coventry. Hopefully moving to Liverpool after this course is done to do one in graphic design there.
Went to Suffolk Community College on Long Island for 2 years. Transfered to the University of Central Florida, they got rid of my major the semester after I got there. I then transfered to Central Connecticut State University, two weeks before the semester ended they told me all my credits transfered as electives instead of towards my major. Im now going to be attending Adelphi University this semester. Hopefully this one is my last stop haha.
Im going to school for phys ed, so Im self-taught for graphics. Though I took a graphics class last semester that taught me a lot about the business side of graphic design.

Nice to see there are some upstate New Yorkers on here! I see that you are fairly new, so welcome. I graduated from SUNY Geneseo.

Dont know much about the 'Cuse... but I heard good stuff... how do you like it up there? the winters SUCK in UP-upstate
Im in the Hudson Valley, smack dab in the middle of NYC and Albany... Good luck at school tho bro, I wasnt ready for it
I got an associates degree there, which basically means nothing. I might as well have been self taught.
Ive thought about going to Portfolio Center, but its dang expensive, but student who come out of there produce amazing work. Anyone have any opinions on that?

Ive got a couple people that are taking advertising classes with me that went to Otis. One of them is really good the others are decent but they all said they hated the school. I think its a lot of stress to go to a school like that and its probably not the healthiest environment. Your work is pushed higher but Im glad I only paid 3 grand a year for school.
I went to five, and all I got was this lousy diploma.
I got expelled from the bible one, you can guess why. I later went back and completed the program online.

Yeah Im originally from Syracuse, I know some really amazing artists who go there, and some who are complete balls. Though I guess thats the case with anywhere. They have pretty decent resources (for most programs) and it seems like you can get a lot out if you put a lot in.
Crap I dont know how to quote on this board...so Im just going to talk @ everyone.
@fuzzy ink
Thanks man, Im actually from Long Island (and live there now) but my 4 years in 'Cuse were a great time. Learned a lot and met a lot of people, including my gf.
@bridawson
Awesome man, is that a triple major or some minors thrown in? What kind of classes/teachers have you got in Illustration? Request the hell out of speakers you want for Visual Symposium, they bring in some great artists.
@litoq
The winters do blow in upstate NY, but thats just more reason to stay inside and drink and partake in extracurricular activities. Also a bong made out of snow is always a plus.
@jaynajaynajayna
I cant speak for all the programs, but I felt the Illustration program to be lacking big time in digital knowledge. Most of the professors are traditional artists, and are fantastic for learning the fundamentals and painting/drawing skills. But Id venture to guess a lot of students know way more than them about the digital part of the field. As always you get what you take out of it though, plenty of people cruise by and graduate without the necessary skills to work.
Sometimes I wonder if it would have been better to go to a 100% art school like RISD or SVA, but I cant complain really.
But overall i am self taught.
The professors i had didnt teach me much of anything that i didnt already know.
I learned InDesign from them, but thats about it.
