Anyone know any tutorials on how to highlight and shade well? I am struggling with it. I am a massive fan of both Jimiyo and DerekDeal and the way they highlight and shade.
Any Advice?

I have no good advice on this matter, although the turning point for me was when an art director instructed me to put in the zingers.
By which he meant, once you arrive at a decent stage where most things are rendered, put in the highlights, also accentuate the shadows. Zingers can be made with a round airbrush with white or light color, or a thing line that is close the edge, shadows are the same except in location.
Its good to imagine where the light is coming from. Easiest thing to do is to observe real life highlights and shadows. They usually come from the top/above, or above and from the 45 degree angle from the zenith.
Thanks for the mention. Keep at it.

jimiyo said it in a nutshell
basically, just visualise where the lighting is coming from, onceoyu find that its easy as cake :]

whoa thanks for the mention, i guess pick a light source like others said and pay attention to where highlights and shadows would fall in a real scenario. I used to just shade haphazardly without any real regard to lighting, but it really just takes a little extra patience and sometimes research to set your piece off.
but jimiyo has a way better understanding than i do, i mean, just look at his spectacular balls
