go to a book store and look for a book on drawing/sketching technique (and make sure its not one about comic characters or manga). the reason i say that is because anyone who can draw a comic character or manga character well is someone who knows how to draw from life perfectly, not the other way around. just sit down and draw what you see, that is the best way to learn how to draw.

that is a must. i started drawing out of a burne hogarth book when i was like 10 or 11 and it really helped me develop my skill especially when drawing anatomy.
Never looked into the Hogarth book because Ive heard other rigid artist say that the anatomy within those books are akin to comic books, otherwise unrealistic. From what Ive seen, I think that comment has some merit since his images are highly stylised.
I would recommend Andrew Loomis. You can find more fundamental technique information on a variety of subject, more than just figure drawing.
Dont know if all the links work, but here pdfs available off the internetz!
books are cool, but youll learn a lot more drawing from life. Just do a lot of it, go to a park or some shit and draw everything you see, but try not to creep people out too much, some people are weird about being analyzed every few seconds.

drawing is a product of looking. Learn to look more. People who draw real life- watch them- they tend to look at their subject more than they look at the canvas.
after drawing hands for so long- i can actually draw from memory all the lines on my palm in almost the right place.
Im still aweomely shit at drawing the human form and may be taking some night classes in it, to pratice looking.
