So I recently applied for my first college loan. I personally have basically no credit. I don’t know exactly what my credit is like, however. Being that I don’t have credit I had to use my Dad as a cosigner because I thought he had good credit (my mom has bankruptcy on her credit)...
So I get home after a terrible day of work to find that I am not approved for the loan. Apparently my Dad has shitty credit too. This is awesome.
So, I’m wondering if any of you out there have been in my shoes and know a way out? Anyone know of a loan for dudes with no credit or cosigner because my parents have terrible fucking credit.
I hate how difficult it is to go to school in this fucking shithole.
I can’t get any help from the government either because according to my parents financial info, I don’t need the help which apparently is complete bullshit since I can’t get a fucking loan with them as a cosigner. Plus my parents haven’t helped me financially for about 3 years.
I really need help and soon. Tuition for the first semester is due Aug. 31st and I don’t have a loan yet...

get a job and sell shit. also, i don’t know how old you are but once you are over 24 your parents income is no longer counted against you. so you will easily receive the federal pell grant and most likely some others as well. my last couple semesters of school when i was old enough to apply for it i got about $2500 per semester. and that is a grant not a loan, free money!

Fuck that sucks man..we get to borrow money from the government and then pay it back with our tax when we get a job earning over a certain amount. Or we get 25% off for paying upfront.

Yeah, we’ve got it pretty good compared to you guys with education and health. Buuut I guess you’re not moving - sooo contact your school - you might be able to get an extension. Get 2 or 3 or 4 jobs and cut down all your expenses.

My expenses are completely cut. I’m living for free right now with my aunt and uncle and all my money is being saved for school. I’ll be lucky if I have 3 grand before school starts and that’s barely half of what I need for first semester tuition.

I know I wish I could ask them to cosign because I know my uncle makes a ton of money, but that is a huge favor to ask and he’s already doing me a big one by allowing me to live with them.
I guess I don’t get to go to school if I can’t pay. I really don’t know what to do. I want this more than anything, but I’m being held back by dollar bills. I need to find an institution that will loan money to people with little or no credit without a cosigner.

I don’t think they know what kind of a jam I’m in so I’m definitely going to be calling and talking to them tomorrow or going to see them in person the next day.

What type of loans are you trying to get? I signed for loans for school when I was 18 with no co-signer, and it was no problem at all. And if, according to you, you have been paying for shit for the past three years (since 17 if you are 20) you shouldn’t need a cosigner on your loans because you can prove you are an independent, and thusly should even get more money because of it, as long as you fill out your fafsa right.
I was lucky in that I did really well in highschool and got enough between government/state financial aid/loans and scholarships to pay for school, but it might just take going to community college for a few semesters to get your shit together, but I don’t know what your situation is - are you trying to go to a private or state school?

i’m just trying to get a private educational loan.
i filled out my fafsa, but i had to use a parents info as well because i’m not considered an independent because i’m not over 24, married, in the military, or legally "separated" from my parents. it’s bs because they haven’t claimed me since i was 18 and i’ve been living out of the household for almost 3 years.
the reason i need a cosigner on my loans is because i don’t have enough credit. i’ve only had one credit card and i haven’t taken out any loans. i’ve been renting apartments for a couple years though, so doesn’t that count towards credit? i don’t get it. i need to find out what my credit is like.
i did well in highschool as well, but i’ve been out for a couple years so i don’t think that my grades even matter anymore.
it’s a public school, btw.
