A comment in the flashback thread gave me this idea. Everyone post the history of you becoming a designer, from start to finish. This should be a fun thread to read to see how far youve came, and help inspire the new people to the industry.

Grew a love for art at a very young age and wanted to be a comic book artist. Got commissioned to do a tee design for my high school baseball team. That sprouted an interest for graphic design. Was inspired by Mike Giant (Rebel 8 clothing) to draw more tee graphics. Now it has become somewhat of an obsession, Good or bad, I dont know. I just love seeing other people wearing my designs.

Birthed as an adult (I respect my mother for being pregnant for 18 years!)
A few years of useless college
Designed some epic designs
Moved to raccoon city
saved the human race from the zombie infestation
erased the memory of all civilians of that GRAVE (heheh get it) situation
A slight sideeffect of the memory wiping was all of my designs were forgotten too but I stopped designing out of fear of shell shock
Joined emptees
moved to LA
now unemployed and the government is denying all of the help I gave it during operation umbrella so I must fend for myself

my sister made a geocities site, and i was like, cool, then she taught me how to make sites from that
then atleast 4 years ago i played a lot of rpg games, and our clan needed a website and i was like, i can make one.
back at that time i used ms paint and my friend was like, hey man dont use paint try out photoshop
got photoshop and ive read many tutorials on how to work photoshop, then got the hang of it after atleast half a year of having it.
then my brother said i could actually make some money doing this shit, which i had no idea. i started out doing stuff for fun, websites with yahoo site builder, then a good friend of mine really helped me out with websites, and having a solid grasp of photoshop it was easy for me to learn how to build websites. along with myspaces.
i met a band who didnt know what was good and what was band so i designed for them still till this day. looking back, i really improved. thanks to them i decided i wanted to work freelance for bands, wether its for websites, myspaces, graphic design, etc.
then 2 years ago and ive only made really shitty money, then i realized, I needed a portfolio (yeah JUST realizing), failed badly on all of my portfolio attempts going through atleast... 5 of them each diff names. i hated how they all looked.
joined emptees this year, and it had really kicked me off my ass to start up a good portfolio, learn more things that i hadnt known, got a huge wacom at a really kickass price (thanks so much davee!), and inspired me thanks to the many artists in this site. Gameyy, Collision theory, frenden, jimiyo, jimmyheartcore, kyle(ez), matihole.
yupp.

5 years ago I was really into video games. I mixed my addiction to War Games like Socom and the internet and really got into the gaming Clan thing. I downloaded the GIMP and started doing graphics for my teams and making sigs for forums.
Soon after I started doing some basic site stuff. When I was 16 I started a small web design thing and did about 3 sites over the course of a year outsourcing most of the coding.
The next year I got really addicted into business and started doing more sites and outsourcing more work. I started my first clothing line called MASapparel (mas stand for make a scene). I also started MAS Booking, booking shows for bands and what not. I then started doing designs for those bands.
2 years later I am still mostly business, run a print shop. Will soon relaunch my full studio offering basically every service needed in this industry.

Started doing artwork. Got pissed off at a client. Got pissed off at a client again. Started thinking about quitting. Got fucking pissed off at a stupid client. Thought about quitting some more. Got pissed off at another fucking dumb client some more. 5 years into this, joined Emptees.
