Heavy, just a few things on shooting skateboarding. Generally, you want to shoot the photo while the trick is happening, not while it's starting or ending. In photos 4 and 7 you shot it way too early and should have waited until the trick was actually in progress before snapping the shot. For the 4th you should have waited until the board was flipping before taking the picture, and for the 7th you should have waited until he was in the grind. Timing is absolutely everything in taking a good skate shot and it will probably take time to learn but keep practicing! Another thing about shooting skateboarding is showing the whole runup and landing as we like to see where they started and where they're going. Also, try and be more creative with the composition and use your surroundings to your advantage. I see fences and a clear sky that you could have framed the skater in! Some examples of shots I think are really good which may give you some inspiration! I can see what you're saying, Khay. I actually did that whole shoot in continuous mode so I have photos of them before, during, and after the tricks. So, it was a conscious decision to use them in those poses. #7 particularly is one of my favorite shots for several reasons. His pose is just really dynamic, the skater himself frames the shot on the right with the strong vertical line his body makes, leaving the rail to the left eludes to what is about to happen and the energy he is exerting, his hands breaking over the fence add to the dynamic feel and energy of the shot, as does his left hand being slightly out of frame. I definitely think it's one of the best photos of the set, and one of the strongest compositions. Following his line of vision helps you relate to what he's doing, and makes this one of the more candid shots I got that day. What you said makes sense, and I will definitely keep it in mind as I continue to shoot skateboarding. In this specific instance I have to respectfully disagree though. I appreciate your taking the time to show me some pointers, and I get what you're saying. I have several shots where I have the lead and landing all captured in succession of about 5 or 6 photos that I'm going to string together and stuff. Should be cool. I'm waiting until I get home to do some of the heavier editing though. This laptop is driving me nuts. 52371

i don't mind hdr when it is done tastefully. hdr is really trendy right now which is fine, but (IMHO) many people are misusing it to the point where it is overdone & made to look ridiculously fake. 52371

Technically HDR is where you merge several photos taken at different exposures together to create a single photo with a fuller range of detail. Some people just take a picture and throw photoshop filters on it though, which kind of defeats the purpose. So, when you do it correctly it looks better. 52371
