<body> Hello designers, Im Bowski. Iv'e been designing shirts and other music related artwork for bands for the past 2 years.
A client has referred me to this site, said I would enjoy it. I LOVE seeing everyone Ideas and interesting art styles, except - I'm not quite sure how this site works. Are we posting shits designed specifically for this site? Are we advertising current designs? How Do we display our shirts in the "Header" fashion, do we do this ourselves or does the site do it? I ask because they all look similar as if one person does it. I know I have a lot of questions, but I'm intrigued by this site - and would like to be a active member. Id love to get feedback from my designs and share critiques with others.

Thanks!

so, you go to tees. you can comment on them or press the LOVE button up-right.
then, the most loved ones make it on the first page.
it's no contest...more of a popularity of the design/er meter.
So, post, read the FAQ/guides, use search, have fun, enjoy!</body>

 - Yes, my pricing is lower, had to be lowered. Portfolio pieces, field work, and letters of recommendations are required for me to graduate. Yes - I may be getting the bone when it comes to payment for work, but the experience and relationships that I'm building is going to go a lot further than a few extra bucks in my pocket, for the moment.

There are all sorts of these threads on emptees - don't worry, you're definitely not the first.

Don't undervalue yourself or your job! Design is just as much of a job as it is a talent. We are highly skilled workers and should be paid as such - think about how much YOU want to be making hourly, and multiply that by how much time YOU want to invest into each project. And you should know by now that the more time you invest into a project, the better it turns out.

You'll also notice that as you up your rates, generally the number of clients you get will significantly decline - but the quality of your clients will significantly increase, as will your pay, as will the quality of your work, which ultimately looks better in your portfolio.

Also keep the design market in mind when adjusting your prices! If there are a bunch of kids on Myspace charging $50 for a shirt design, every band in the world will come to expect shirt designs for $50. In order for most full-time freelance designers to make a living off of this, they would literally have to pump out a shirt every half-hour to an hour. Don't turn your career into a Myspace trend!</body>

He explains it really well Bowski. It's a vicious circle if you charge very little. In the long run you actually are doing yourself more harm than good by making clients think that those prices are common, and also by saying that is what your work is worth.

The price is as much for your time as it is for your ability.

It is much better for you to do one piece for $200 but it be awesome and look great in your portfolio than it is for you to do 4 $50 pieces. You naturally won't invest as much effort into the cheaper pieces (trust me, you just won't, the motivation will never be there), and they won't make your portfolio look any better.</body>

<body>One tip i can give you, use some diferent t-shirt templates for your mock ups.

Here's the American Apparel template: http://emptees.com/resources/27-american-apparel-t-shirt-template (it will go straight to the download window).

I like the chalk lady. I'm not too keen on the leaves at the back though....don't know why. Maybe the colour of them, somehow for me it doesn't go with the lady.</body>

<body>hate me? interesting... well, I have certainly taken all the advice, and appreciate it. Kind of why I'm here - to further educate myself by communicating with my peers in the same trade, but to assume I will be hated.. well that's rather strong isn't it? I'm sure not everyone here is so quick to "hate" - especially since I'm here to collect critiques and learn the game better. I appreciate your time to let me know where im weaker, but to call me stupid and to wish for my death is a bit extreme - don't you think? Perhaps your downgrading behavioral patterns stem from how you were raised, but that is none of my business. I appreciate your advice, regardless of the aggressive tones, and I wish you the best brother. -namaste </body>

<body>Why do so many of you think that every artist will understand pricing and it's ramifications? It's not something that is automatically taught, even at colleges (ones over here don't).

In this age, when more and more people are self-teaching, it's something that sometimes gets bypassed as they don't know there's anything wrong. I for one have been taught a HUGE amount about price structuring since joining here, because i knew nothing beforehand.

Just being a douche to these people is a bit harsh surely? Can we not just educate them (like Bowski states his reasons for being here) and then let them make an educated decision? That decision will most likely be one that most of us approve of if we just took the time to explain, properly, why his prices are harmful to others.</body>

<body>pricing and all that stuff should be made a resource by someone. just saying.
also, Bowski, you'll learn. You also need croc skin around here, don't get easily offended..there's just some "picking on the new guy" going on, but it will prove useful in the long run. Not taking offense is important too when "working" with bad clients.
PS&gt; hit the search tab and write 50$...then read soe of the threads. eye-opening to say the least:)</body>
