Hey guys!
Probably been the subject of few threads, but I really need to know what should I choose between a Macbook or a Dell laptop.
Ill get a MacBook/Windows laptop next month, but I need some infos first.
Id like to get a MacBook, but its more expensive than a Windows laptop.
Yeah, MacOSx interface looks better, its alot more user friendly, no anti-virus needed...but is it worth paying the price?
Please tell me why you think I should get a Macbook/Windows Laptop.
Thanks alot!

Thanks Ryan for your opinion. But why? I need better reasons than "Im a Apple Fan" or "The interface looks great".
Thanks again everyone! Keep your thoughts coming!

apple is designed with designers in mind the os is more than looks its a beast.
The backups are easy, and its got the power. The price is nuts but worth it.
hope that helps you can get a refurbished one for a discount if you dont mind one of the last year models

If youre an artist or designer you need the mac because thats what mac is all about. The industry standard programs are originally made for mac, you wont have the virus trouble and youll look much cooler ;)

not having to run adware, antivirus, or defrag every fucking week is worth the pricetag.

for reals. You can do everything you can on a pc on a mac, and things just work. I find that the interface is a lot more intuitive. just the fact that the windows interface doesnt have an integrated search bar in its ...whats the pc version of finder called? either way, not having that at work irritates teh hell out of me.
Macbook for the win.

macosx isnt written on the same thing the original mac os was? lol, windows kernel is huge or something, idk.....

My past experiences have taught me that you get what you pay for. Having used Mac for all my professional life and PC at home "because it was cheaper", I can definitely say that I would NEVER rely on a PC for my work.

told you

Youll spend enough money in fixing your pc to make up for the costliness of the mac anyways. With macs, you get your moneys worth and they are a dream to use.

macbook, or better just get an imac. a friend of mine debated the pc/mac thing and the guy at the store told her to get a pc with the same abilities, she should get a pretty high end sony vayo which was $150 more than the mac

get the dell, or a gateway, those are good too.
chalk said 5 months ago
ive used both extensively - i use a mac at home and pc at work at the moment
macs are so much easier to live with, everyone I know moans about vista, mac os is a beautiful thing - all the mac programmes that come free like iPhoto, Mail, iDVD are brilliant and all interace with each other and iTunes.
the advertising is true 'it just works' - windows to me means having to put in work maintaining it, running virus stuff, defragging, spending too much time clicking 'are you sure?' dialogue boxes. awful

although you dont want to end up like these sheep

vista sucks yes. i like windows xp. if you know what you are doing, you can customize the hell out of it. give me stripped GUI with maximum efficiency performance with the tools that are important like PS, Illustrator, Maya, Dreamweaver, over some pretty GUI anyday.
i havent had a virus since windows 98, and i dont run adware software unless ive been surfing some raunchy dolphin buttfucking mp3 downloading warez site.
and that drivel about only defraggin on PC.
MACS... Disk/Permissions Repair, Cache Clearing, Defragmentation.
Its called Mac Jantior, Onyx, Disk Utility.
Just because its a SAAB or a Jaguar, doesnt mean that it doesnt need maintenance.

macs are overrated. pc all fucking day long.

Incarnadine said 5 months ago
I see people saying this all the time. But why? Nobody explains themselves. And you people who had so much trouble with PCs and maintenance, I dont get it, really, I have none of these problems on this (admittedly not so great) XP laptop. Yeah, Ive had to defrag (once in about 6 months), but I have yet to see a need for antivirus software.
I will be switching to mac soon. Not because of a bad experience with PCs, a maxed out iMac is just looking pretty good right now. But all this "Get a mac its so much better for no justifiable reason" BS is becoming a little off putting.

i bought a mac pro because everyone was always like there so great for designers but i dont see what the song and dance is about
i havve a PC (dun dun dun) with xp its 2 years old it cost a quater what the mac did yet i still prefer it to the mac to do most things
im sure the apple massive will now correct me on why macs rule
brotel said 5 months ago
if all i wanted was to write papers, surf the internet, and design movies and art id go with the mac...
BUT, if you want to play mindsweeper, go with the PC.
jimiyo said 5 months ago
(im being somewhat facetious but)

Haha...
Thanks for your thoughts guys and girls.
Ive been using a PC for years, and never had problem with it.
I know you dont need any anti-virus on a Mac and it looks good, and artists are almost all using Macs...But why? I need the real reasons.
Im pretty sure a Dell XPS and a MacBook Pro would be pretty similar, except the interface!
And btw, I know I wont be a better artist on a Mac...hehe. So...yeah.

Besides what everyone else has said, apple just has pretty kick ass warranty/care. Every time Ive had a problem (rare, and mostly with accessories) its been taken care of right away.
I bought my macbook right after they first came out so there were still some bugs... I called up about a problem my computer was having and the guy there estimated itd take a week to repair, but when I went into the apple store and talked to the guy there he said he would do it for me over night. And he also offered to give me a free copy of warcraft because I had warcraft III on my dock. I think he might have just wanted to e-bone me, but whatever I got my computer fixed in less than 15 hours.
Also Ive broken 2 chargers, and got new ones in the mail in less than 24 hours each time. I am down with that

... someone told me that that place is some journalism school or something along those lines and as a suggestion they tell everyone to get an apple instead of anything else.
Incarnadine said 5 months ago
Zing!
Doesnt Jeff Finley use XP too? From what Ive seen from his tutorials.
Tender Branson said 5 months ago
It sounds like you have pretty much already made up your mind about getting a PC so why dont you just go with what you think is best? Everyone is going to have different opinions on things, that doesnt make any of them right.
Simply Complicated said 5 months ago
lol full sail pretty much tells you to get a mac.. its included in your tuition haha
Ameeee said 5 months ago
I have a PC - but covet a Mac because they are beautiful. I am a superficial being and the Mac is hot. Once I get a new job my dilemna will be whether to get a Macbook or an iMac. Im too afraid to spend the money now. Plus I will have to buy the Mac version of CS3..so Ill hold off.
Im happy with my PC I must say, its done the job for sure. The computer isnt going to do the designing for you anyways - its merely a tool.
explodingtoes said 5 months ago
and ummm you can run windows via bootcamp or parallels flawlessly. i do it daily at work when im cross browser testing.
mattschoch said 5 months ago
...you dont have to buy the mac version...you can download it!
hah.
but really, adobe should give you a mac version free if you get a new computer that is a mac, at least i think so.
Tender Branson said 5 months ago
I agree, a computer isnt going to be doing any designing for you and it surely wont make you better depending on which platform you use.
I prefer Mac because in the last 13 years that Ive been using them Ive very rarely had a problem, maybe 1 or 2. In the last 5 years that Ive had a PC at home (3 different ones) each of them have been an epic fail. Errors all the time, crashing, losing my files, adware, etc. etc.

Although it bears no relevance to this thread. Did you know that Ryan draws stuff using the touch pad. Insane in an impressive way.

"Ill probably go with a Dell XPS."
So, if I change my mind, Ill tell you guys!
Lets say if I had all the money in the world, I would go with Macbook...well see.

hey would you rather have steak or spam?
larin555 said 4 months ago
Thats why Ive made this thread...I wasnt sure wich one to choose. Ive made my choice...iMac ftw.
Incarnadine said 4 months ago
When you can get more bang for your buck, why not? (Based on your phrasing, is the macbook spam? haha)
VVV dude, not even gonna bother. Its impossible reasoning with apple fans.
Time Without the E said 4 months ago
