I’ve made my choice! -

posted 5 months ago by larin555

Hey guys!

Probably been the subject of few threads, but I really need to know what should I choose between a Macbook or a Dell laptop.

I’ll get a MacBook/Windows laptop next month, but I need some infos first.

I’d like to get a MacBook, but it’s more expensive than a Windows laptop.
Yeah, MacOSx interface looks better, it’s alot more user friendly, no anti-virus needed...but is it worth paying the price?

Please tell me why you think I should get a Macbook/Windows Laptop.

Thanks alot!

Thanks Ryan for your opinion. But why? I need better reasons than "I’m a Apple Fan" or "The interface looks great".

Thanks again everyone! Keep your thoughts coming!

apple is designed with designers in mind the os is more than looks its a beast.
The backups are easy, and it’s got the power. The price is nuts but worth it.
hope that helps you can get a refurbished one for a discount if you don’t mind one of the last year models

If you’re an artist or designer you need the mac because that’s what mac is all about. The industry standard programs are originally made for mac, you won’t have the virus trouble and you’ll look much cooler ;)

not having to run adware, antivirus, or defrag every fucking week is worth the pricetag.

for reals. You can do everything you can on a pc on a mac, and things just work. I find that the interface is a lot more intuitive. just the fact that the windows interface doesn’t have an integrated search bar in it’s ...what’s the pc version of finder called? either way, not having that at work irritates teh hell out of me.
    Macbook for the win.

My past experiences have taught me that you get what you pay for. Having used Mac for all my professional life and PC at home "because it was cheaper", I can definitely say that I would NEVER rely on a PC for my work.

You’ll spend enough money in fixing your pc to make up for the costliness of the mac anyways. With macs, you get your money’s worth and they are a dream to use.

macbook, or better just get an imac. a friend of mine debated the pc/mac thing and the guy at the store told her to get a pc with the same abilities, she should get a pretty high end sony vayo which was $150 more than the mac

i’ve used both extensively - i use a mac at home and pc at work at the moment

macs are so much easier to live with, everyone I know moans about vista, mac os is a beautiful thing - all the mac programmes that come free like iPhoto, Mail, iDVD are brilliant and all interace with each other and iTunes.

the advertising is true 'it just works' - windows to me means having to put in work maintaining it, running virus stuff, defragging, spending too much time clicking 'are you sure?' dialogue boxes. awful

vista sucks yes. i like windows xp. if you know what you are doing, you can customize the hell out of it. give me stripped GUI with maximum efficiency performance with the tools that are important like PS, Illustrator, Maya, Dreamweaver, over some pretty GUI anyday.

i havent had a virus since windows 98, and i dont run adware software unless ive been surfing some raunchy dolphin buttfucking mp3 downloading warez site.

and that drivel about only defraggin on PC.

MACS... Disk/Permissions Repair, Cache Clearing, Defragmentation.

Its called Mac Jantior, Onyx, Disk Utility.

Just because its a SAAB or a Jaguar, doesnt mean that it doesnt need maintenance.

I see people saying this all the time. But why? Nobody explains themselves. And you people who had so much trouble with PCs and maintenance, I don’t get it, really, I have none of these problems on this (admittedly not so great) XP laptop. Yeah, I’ve had to defrag (once in about 6 months), but I have yet to see a need for antivirus software.

I will be switching to mac soon. Not because of a bad experience with PCs, a maxed out iMac is just looking pretty good right now. But all this "Get a mac it’s so much better for no justifiable reason" BS is becoming a little off putting.

I’ve been using a PC for years, and never had problem with it.
I know you don’t need any anti-virus on a Mac and it looks good, and artists are almost all using Macs...But why? I need the real reasons.

I’m pretty sure a Dell XPS and a MacBook Pro would be pretty similar, except the interface!

    And btw, I know I won’t be a better artist on a Mac...hehe. So...yeah.

Besides what everyone else has said, apple just has pretty kick ass warranty/care. Every time I’ve had a problem (rare, and mostly with accessories) it’s been taken care of right away.

I bought my macbook right after they first came out so there were still some bugs... I called up about a problem my computer was having and the guy there estimated it’d take a week to repair, but when I went into the apple store and talked to the guy there he said he would do it for me over night. And he also offered to give me a free copy of warcraft because I had warcraft III on my dock. I think he might have just wanted to e-bone me, but whatever I got my computer fixed in less than 15 hours.

Also I’ve broken 2 chargers, and got new ones in the mail in less than 24 hours each time. I am down with that

I have a PC - but covet a Mac because they are beautiful. I am a superficial being and the Mac is hot. Once I get a new job my dilemna will be whether to get a Macbook or an iMac. I’m too afraid to spend the money now. Plus I will have to buy the Mac version of CS3..so I’ll hold off.

I’m happy with my PC I must say, it’s done the job for sure. The computer isn’t going to do the designing for you anyways - it’s merely a tool.

I agree, a computer isn’t going to be doing any designing for you and it surely won’t make you better depending on which platform you use.

I prefer Mac because in the last 13 years that I’ve been using them I’ve very rarely had a problem, maybe 1 or 2. In the last 5 years that I’ve had a PC at home (3 different ones) each of them have been an epic fail. Errors all the time, crashing, losing my files, adware, etc. etc.
