<body>it really depends on the process and the design.
i have a 1 colour design going through my local screen printer
$45 for the screen and $12 per print incl the tshirt

more colours means more screens, if it's on a dark colour they may have to put it through twice, lining up the screen again, and then lining it up for another colour etc. backyard jobs probly dont have the heat press or conveyor to set the ink properly. and if it's a bigger company they probably have very expensive equipment, it it is rather pricey, they have to recover the cost of the machine with their sales, more business means more staff, someone who does it cheap at home probly doesn't charge much for labour time, making the screen cleaning the screen. there are so many factoring costs that just scale up as the business gets bigger</body>

<body>yeah i was about to say.. that sounded kinda expensive. but i guess its just the way it goes ..its so hard finding people to do it for cheap..best thing to do is just to send quotes from other business to other screen printers and let them battle it out.. kinda like u do when ya buying a TV or something ahha :P.

The reason the kid in his mums basement can do it so much cheaper than a professional shop is that the kid in his mums basement doesn't have rent to pay, doesn't have to pay himself and generally isn't trying to make a living from doing it. Consequentially, they probably also aren't as concerned with the final product since their livelihood doesn't depend on it and they can't get all the proper equipment in their parent's basement anyway. You get what you pay for.

I understand your point, but a person's "concern" over helping you is nothing if they don't have the right tools to produce the right results. Also, they may treat you right up front, but if something goes wrong they have absolutely no reason to try and fix the problem or make it any better, since this is just a hobby to them. Whether you are just another sale to a business is irrelevant, they will (if they are a reputable business) stand behind their work and make sure you are satisfied since bad word of mouth would hurt them way more than any hobby printer.</body>
