definitely a lot of rad stuff - I feel like I shouldnt like the Batman one as much as I do (since there have been a few Batman logo flips out there, even though I think this one is particularly well done), but thats one that I saw and immediately wanted to own.

yeah the batman one is nice but this has been done too many times!..
i dont think everything is great. Theres some cool stuff. Im glad he went back to doing spoof type stuff... For a dude who charges 36 bucks for a tee he needs to invest in waterbased and discharge inks
I think they are really cool- but in reality I would never WEAR those designs, but prints would be cool.
I did pick up the JC Boston type tee when I was in Boston last week... SO DOPE.

The Jokester, BatCakes, Candybar Kid, Praying Mitts, and I think one other - are done with discharge / waterbase. Im starting to do almost all of my future shirts like that. I dont know why I didnt before?
On my website, I did not mention what shirts I did those printing methods to, because I didnt want to confuse all of my customers. And even if I did dumb things down and say "look - you cant feel this one!", I dont want them calling every 5 minutes to ask which ones you can and cant feel.
Hellen Keller called... she wants her plastisol back.

Yes. Crazy busy. I just had to update all this server/back-up/mumbo jumbo so that people can actually enter my site. This usually happens whenever I have a huge online release. I have nearly 40k customers on my e-mailing list. I have over 53k customers on my myspace. So when I get the word out about new shirts, my website cries. I now have almost enough electronic Prozak so this doesnt happen in the future. Sorry for any inconvenience guys.

Johnny the new tees are so fresh! Its awesome to have creative brands like yours. I like Wilson guy (haha so good) and Pastry Reaper the best. Keep it up dude!

The dynamite packaging/tees is brilliant.
Thank you.
Kids camped out nearly 3 days prior to the release of the limited edition of 100 dynamite t-shirt. I sold them for $70 and they sold out in the few hours we had them (with an exception to a few girls sizes that I found later that night, in which Ill give away and/or ebay in the future.)
I was super hesitant about $70 seeing how Ive never sold a shirt for that much before. My customers did not hesitate for a moment. Some even bought two. One to wear and one to save.
It was an amazing day, and watching everyones facial expressions is my favorite thing. Its like seeing kids faces during Christmas morning!
...More photos from the release will be on my website in a few weeks.

Yeah, isnt it amazing how people cant take a second and just read a description?
The best is when I get an email "hey Im on the page for product X and it says it is printed on american apparel. is this true" and things of that sort.

Yeah man... I can write a box set of novels on the e-mails and phone calls that have been received at my headquarters. In the future, I will probably have some of my employees filmed telling different stories/wacky question/emails/calls that theyve experienced in the past + present. Some are pretty funny.

Thanks everyone. The Wilson shirt was named after the neighbor from Home Improvement. Is it weird that I used to have a small crush on Jill?

love the pin stripes one. when i was about 5 years old my parents took me on a road trip from minneapolis to atlanta. just before we left the driveway the post man came by with the latest issue of highlights. i spent the first hour of the road trip trying to find all of the hidden images, and the last 23 hours trying to draw my own secretive images. might pick that one up as i love the memories.
also, cant wait for the LA opening. ill be attending lollapalooza in Chicago when it happens but will swing through, with some new Cupcake shoppers, when back in town.

Id love to buy somemore Tees for my daughter whos 3 , any plan to extend the range of designs to the kids section...? :)
Perhaps around the holidays? I just have so many more products / items that I need to finish baking before I take on more.
Johnny I heard you were doing another "whats in the cupcake mix" line again with all the awesome packaging adn goodies, is that true. And I totally love your old band on broken wings man they are so beast! I saw them once in Virginia it was such an intense show, that was after you left to pursue your brand of course, but still amazing!

Ill be gone from July 30 - August 10th. If youre in town that long you should check out some of the galleries in in your new hood. I sent you an email once giving you a heads up about a luke chueh show, and now they got a show running through July 11 @ Gallery 1988 by a guy name Matt Dangler, his stuff is really good, with a hint of the child in all of us in his work, that seems to be important to you as well.

This is true! This time I will have one on the east coast and one on the west coast. Its an October tradition!
Im glad you enjoyed my ex-band On Broken Wings. Lots of great memories of touring with all of my best friends.

not much to say here but another stellar job johnny...youre brand and success is a huge inspiration to all us here...keep up the good work...still waiting on a JC here in atlanta :)
Its been in the talks before, and I think having a store across the street from kidrobot LA, the chances will get even better.
I will have limited JC original toys too, in time to come...
Be sure to post a presale or something over here!
Dunnys are my new obsession. Whenever I go to Miami I leave with a huge bag of vinyl nonsense. My friends think they look like McDonalds toys, which they can sometimes, but theyre beautiful.

Very very smart move. If you can do it, why not?
$70 is a lot for a shirt but only 100 people can say they have it.
That value is priceless--
Amazing new shirts, i cant wait to pick some of those up.
:-)
Its amazing to see just how popular your brand is becoming.
One question, How come you dont ever have any XS sized shirts? Im a little guy and a small is just a little too big for me, so i always have to buy a girls medium!
CDC since 2005 said: im curious how much you sold your shirts for back in the day when you first started? and when did you decide to raise your prices?
-When I was in my band and selling shirts out of my suitcase + using Hanes/Fruit of the Loom/Anvil, $7-$10.
-After I left the band, $12-$15.
-Started using more ink colors, better t-shirt bodies, $17-$22.
-Spoke with different kids at trade shows + owners of stores, realized that I was under selling my shirts. Custom tags. Opened my own shop. Raised the price to $26-$30.
-Ripped up store orders, beefed up my website/webstore. Opened up my 2nd store. Paid more attention to details and packaging. $35 ish.
-Decided on making my limited edition dynamite shirt $70 after seeing kidrobot sell t-shirts that are not numbered, for $60-$70. And Bape t-shirts seem to always sell at their $70-$150 price points. Thats with no crazy packaging or numbering.
It is always scary raising prices, yet exciting at the same time. Not exciting in the making more money aspect, but more so in seeing who truly understands and appreciates your brand and attention to details.

As far as international locations, Id like to do London + Canada. Well see though... One thing at a time. Plus I want to find a wifey and have a baby in the mix of things.

Ive always thought those prices were crazy. WAY outta my league. I barely buy tees to begin with though. Too many bills to pay. Max Ive paid is like 30 i think.
Im not knockin the biz of it... because there is obviously the market for it. I just cant afford to spend 70 on what could pay my gas bill instead.
Hey man. I just wanna say how much I respect your work and how awesome your products always end up. I havent been to your shop yet but it is def something I plan on doing soon.
Also think its awesome you support our homies in GCH ;)

Ive been friends with Gym Class when they were touring in a rusty van playing in front of people who paid little attention to them. And at the same time, I was getting made fun of for thinking people would buy my cupcake shirts...
...years go by and weve remained best buds and have watched each others hobbies/empires grow.
I totally forgot about the bake sale section. Just ordered the white air johnny tee in size small with a gift box haha. Definitely gonna order the Batman one and a few others sometime next week.
When are we all gonna get some JC shoes like youve been hinting about?

hey man let me know when your guna be at your LA store and ill head up there and check it out. its kind of a lame drive from huntington
i just want to say that anytime a ceo takes time to blog and then respond multiple times is awesome...you deserve your success when you pay such attention to customers and fans alike...
Cupcakes are the cutest of all baked goods...but the worst because you always want more...They need to make JUMBO cupcakes. With candy on top....and no kids are aloud to eat them because they aer so big the kids will go into a sugar coma and not wake up for a week...better yet its manditory for kids to eat them then!
And I get special pink colored ones!....mmmmm cupcakes

Wouldnt a jumbo cupcake just be a cake?
Noooo Its not as cuuute! Cakes are big maybe a mini cake of some sort...like the size of a cup...but bigger

I really hope the future brings get things for you JC!

I started with nothing man. After dropping out of college, I was cashing in and using all my checks from the record shop I worked at, Newbury Comics. Just kept recycling money back into everything, whenever I sold out of shirts. Yadda yadda... the whole story is on my website.
Anyways, thanks for the kind words Rik. It makes me happy when people see and understand where Ive come from and what Ive done to get where I am now. Whether you like shirts with cupcakes on them or not, at least respect and learn from what Ive created.
Im going to eat twelve strawberry fruit leathers.

Tender Branson said 5 months ago
I cant even get it to load.. must be busy?
seibei said 5 months ago
definitely a lot of rad stuff - I feel like I shouldnt like the Batman one as much as I do (since there have been a few Batman logo flips out there, even though I think this one is particularly well done), but thats one that I saw and immediately wanted to own.
kyleisez said 5 months ago
i want the joker one so fucking bad but the server is on overloadddd
M.Eureka said 5 months ago
yeah true this!
justinryan said 5 months ago
Dude is consistently awesome. Who else can drop so many new products at a time and be nearly flawless?
M.Eureka said 5 months ago
yeah the batman one is nice but this has been done too many times!..
M.Eureka said 5 months ago
I think that this release is much better than what was in his store before
keone said 5 months ago
good stuff. looks like the server is slammed right now

i like it all apart from the baseball/basketball ones :]

I cant even get the blog to open. Cupcake Fail.
kyleisez said 5 months ago
i dont think everything is great. Theres some cool stuff. Im glad he went back to doing spoof type stuff... For a dude who charges 36 bucks for a tee he needs to invest in waterbased and discharge inks
justinryan said 5 months ago
Absolutely.
alrightok said 5 months ago
although every streetwear company who charges even more seems to get away with it as well..but i do agree fully.
kyleisez said 5 months ago
i snagged the joker shirt, scorrreee
Nate said 5 months ago
I think they are really cool- but in reality I would never WEAR those designs, but prints would be cool.
I did pick up the JC Boston type tee when I was in Boston last week... SO DOPE.
Simply Complicated said 5 months ago
theres only about 2 or 3 i wouldnt rock... the joker tee is amazing
Matt Rupp said 5 months ago
Ahh his marketing techniques are incredible!
The dynamite packaging/tees is brilliant.
Johnny Cupcakes said 5 months ago
The Jokester, BatCakes, Candybar Kid, Praying Mitts, and I think one other - are done with discharge / waterbase. Im starting to do almost all of my future shirts like that. I dont know why I didnt before?
On my website, I did not mention what shirts I did those printing methods to, because I didnt want to confuse all of my customers. And even if I did dumb things down and say "look - you cant feel this one!", I dont want them calling every 5 minutes to ask which ones you can and cant feel.
Hellen Keller called... she wants her plastisol back.
Johnny Cupcakes said 5 months ago
Yes.
Johnny Cupcakes said 5 months ago
I have a lot of prints planned for the near future. As well as some other secret goodies. Stay tuned.
AYYOGOLDSTEIN said 5 months ago
Epic win.
Can we get Emptees Secret Goodies?

Im pretty sure Pink Frosting is going to be mine shortly
Johnny Cupcakes said 5 months ago
Its like seeing kids faces during Christmas morning!
...More photos from the release will be on my website in a few weeks.
justinryan said 5 months ago
Yeah, isnt it amazing how people cant take a second and just read a description?
The best is when I get an email "hey Im on the page for product X and it says it is printed on american apparel. is this true" and things of that sort.
Johnny Cupcakes said 5 months ago
Yeah man... I can write a box set of novels on the e-mails and phone calls that have been received at my headquarters. In the future, I will probably have some of my employees filmed telling different stories/wacky question/emails/calls that theyve experienced in the past + present. Some are pretty funny.
Johnny Cupcakes said 5 months ago
Thanks everyone. The Wilson shirt was named after the neighbor from Home Improvement. Is it weird that I used to have a small crush on Jill?
Mattateu said 5 months ago
haha thats exactly what I thought! Such a clever design! haha Jill and remember JTT what a hunk!

landshark said 5 months ago
love the pin stripes one. when i was about 5 years old my parents took me on a road trip from minneapolis to atlanta. just before we left the driveway the post man came by with the latest issue of highlights. i spent the first hour of the road trip trying to find all of the hidden images, and the last 23 hours trying to draw my own secretive images. might pick that one up as i love the memories.
also, cant wait for the LA opening. ill be attending lollapalooza in Chicago when it happens but will swing through, with some new Cupcake shoppers, when back in town.
Johnny Cupcakes said 5 months ago
Mannn Highlights was my jam!
When will you be back in LA? I will be out there from July 6th - August 6th, living at the Roosevelt Hotel and working hard on the new shoppe.

Id love to buy somemore Tees for my daughter whos 3 , any plan to extend the range of designs to the kids section...? :)

At the moement she wears your classic white crossbones with a Linty Fresh badge on it!! The girl has taste!!
I think your new collection is awesome, really makes me wanna buy tons because there is alot of variety.
Mattateu said 5 months ago
Johnny I heard you were doing another "whats in the cupcake mix" line again with all the awesome packaging adn goodies, is that true. And I totally love your old band on broken wings man they are so beast! I saw them once in Virginia it was such an intense show, that was after you left to pursue your brand of course, but still amazing!
landshark said 5 months ago
Ill be gone from July 30 - August 10th. If youre in town that long you should check out some of the galleries in in your new hood. I sent you an email once giving you a heads up about a luke chueh show, and now they got a show running through July 11 @ Gallery 1988 by a guy name Matt Dangler, his stuff is really good, with a hint of the child in all of us in his work, that seems to be important to you as well.
Johnny Cupcakes said 5 months ago
This is true! This time I will have one on the east coast and one on the west coast. Its an October tradition!
Im glad you enjoyed my ex-band On Broken Wings. Lots of great memories of touring with all of my best friends.

Johnny Cupcakes said 5 months ago
Thanks man, I appreciate it. I use to pee my pants over making $150 bucks in one month, on my old old site/online store back in the day.
And whenever I make money, I just keep putting it back in the business. Working on cut + sew stuff now, as well as toys and other fun accessories. Gonna save some for the next shoppe Im going to open. It will probably be in New York in the next year-2 years.
Johnny Cupcakes said 5 months ago
She is a babe...but in a weird way. The same way that Bjork is attractive. Shes not but she is... Maybe its just me being a weirdo.

Its been in the talks before, and I think having a store across the street from kidrobot LA, the chances will get even better.
I will have limited JC original toys too, in time to come...
alexgoldstein said 5 months ago
Be sure to post a presale or something over here!
Dunnys are my new obsession. Whenever I go to Miami I leave with a huge bag of vinyl nonsense. My friends think they look like McDonalds toys, which they can sometimes, but theyre beautiful.
Time Without the E said 5 months ago
im curious how much you sold your shirts for back in the day when you first started? and when did you decide to raise your prices?
AYYOGOLDSTEIN said 5 months ago
Yes please.
& Im sort of shocked how much he posted on here,
respect.
Matt Rupp said 5 months ago
Very very smart move. If you can do it, why not?
$70 is a lot for a shirt but only 100 people can say they have it.
That value is priceless--

Amazing new shirts, i cant wait to pick some of those up.

Its amazing to see just how popular your brand is becoming.
One question, How come you dont ever have any XS sized shirts? Im a little guy and a small is just a little too big for me, so i always have to buy a girls medium!

Johnny Cupcakes said 5 months ago
Johnny Cupcakes said 5 months ago
You better wear an adult diaper - I almost guarantee some peepee drips due to excitement.
Johnny Cupcakes said 5 months ago

Australia, not so sure.
New York is my next spot in which Im going to try to open in the next year or two.
As far as international locations, Id like to do London + Canada. Well see though... One thing at a time. Plus I want to find a wifey and have a baby in the mix of things.
chrisrushing said 5 months ago
Ive always thought those prices were crazy. WAY outta my league. I barely buy tees to begin with though. Too many bills to pay. Max Ive paid is like 30 i think.
Im not knockin the biz of it... because there is obviously the market for it. I just cant afford to spend 70 on what could pay my gas bill instead.
chrisrushing said 5 months ago
wifeys are good. so good.

Johnny Cupcakes said 5 months ago
I cant wait. Im going to body slam my wifey every night (in a good way.)
Johnny Cupcakes said 5 months ago
Where did the name 'baby batter' come from? I feel like it originated from somewhere 3 years ago, and its now used frequent.
I used to love eating the cookie dough / batter off of the mixers when I was younger. My mom would give one to me and one to my sister.
Johnny Cupcakes said 5 months ago
Thank you sir!
Ive been friends with Gym Class when they were touring in a rusty van playing in front of people who paid little attention to them. And at the same time, I was getting made fun of for thinking people would buy my cupcake shirts...
...years go by and weve remained best buds and have watched each others hobbies/empires grow.
Theyre great people!
