Hello everyone - we are very excited to tell you about our new T-shirt company/website called teefury.com –
Teefury is a site for artists and created by artists. Everyday we will feature a new limited edition t-shirt. We will only offer each shirt for 24 hours. After 24 hours the shirt will never be sold again on the site. Ever. Never. Forever.
All artists will retain 100% of their rights to their art and will earn $1 for every shirt sold.
We are keeping prices down while still trying to give as much back to the artists as possible – so all tees will be just $9 – which means we have to limit prints to 6 colors and mostly center placements.
We are currently seeking artists who would like to participate in the Fury. Please feel free to contact me layne@teefury.com with any questions.
Submission guidelines:
1. Designs are limited to 6 colors and (mostly) front chest print.
2. Submissions should be at least 800 x 800 pixels (keep file size below 10 megs please).
3. Please include interesting tid-bits about you in your email and a link to your portfolio site.
4. We are looking for art from all genres including satirical, tongue-in-cheek, one liners, political, artsy, or pop culture (but please nothing crass, offensive, or crude).
So –if you are interested, please submit your artwork to
art@teefury.com
(if your design is selected, we will contact you for the high-res version).

Worst timing ever.
layne said 5 months ago
Do you mean - because there are a million t-shirt sites out there? or because emptees has been a bit depressing lately? both are good justifications for "worst timing ever" but just curious - thanks!
jimiyo said 5 months ago
You are selling shirt for $9? How bout shipping?
layne said 5 months ago
Yep - we have to go $2 flat anywhere in the US - using FedEx SmartPost - and then we will also have FedEx Ground for a little more - I wish we could do Free Shipping ;( maybe in the future??
jimiyo said 5 months ago
What kind of shirts? AA or something like Gildan?
And this 24 hours things.... sounds mighty short... at least in the beginning. I like the idea. I mean... Shirt.woot can do it, but theyve had massive traffic for years now to start with.
How do you intend to drive the community? Forum? Contests?

post to the UK?
quakerninja said 5 months ago
Each super limited edition T-shirt will be sold for only 24 hours or until sold out, which ever happens first, and then removed from the site, never available again.
How many shirt will you print of each?
So If you do 2000 units it could be available for a while right.
Edit: Sent you my Feel Me design. Good luck.
layne said 5 months ago
Actually we will only sell the shirt for one 24 hour cycle from midnight to midnight Pacific Standard Time. After that the shirt will NOT be available ever again.
We are going to start in the US first - and then go international a little bit later.
Jon Kruse said 5 months ago
What does "all artists will retain 100% of their rights" mean.
FuzzyInk said 5 months ago
I believe that means that the artist will have the option to use it himself afterward, at least thats what it usually means.
quakerninja said 5 months ago
I was just asking because the payment to the artist is a buck a shirt, If you cant sell that much in one 24 hour go than what. The artist gets peanuts and you have left over shirts.
Not trying to rain on your parade or anything. I think the more shirt sites the better opportunity for me personally. I just dont see this as the most effective way of running a business.
Honestly I wont even know if a shirt is available unless I get an email or something and even then Im a space case I may mean to buy a shirt, go off to doodle or something and miss the whole thing.
I get the limited edition thing, but I would reconsider the 24 hr deal.
also is there an upfront payment for winners or just the buck a shirt thing.
again Im not trying to be negative, I really want to participate.
layne said 5 months ago
We mean we dont own your design/art and have no claim. We are basically leasing the rights to use the design to print on a tee for one day to sell. If you want to go on and make posters, resell to a client, print your own etc. then go for it - most other sites - threadless, dbh, shirt.woot ask you to sign over your rights to the artwork when you win their contests. So, we created a t-shirt site which allows the artists to retain ALL of their rights and still make some extra $$ on the side.
Great thoughts - appreciate the feedback. Hopefully we have taken out all the risk to the artist in regards to submitting a design - if a shirt only sells 500 units then you will get a check (via paypal) for $500 - if the shirt only sells 50 then you will get $50 - but you retain your artwork and all rights, which allows you to submit to another site - and because we are prevented from selling your design after 24 hours then other t-shirt contest sites will accept your design for subsequent contests.
When your shirt is on sale then hopefully you rally the troops to grab it while they can. ;)
quakerninja said 5 months ago
Sorry for the pesky questions. Last one I promise. Can I submit a design that is for sale at another site. say zazzle or something. The mark up there kills me and I would like to offer shirts for a lower price even if its for a day.
layne said 5 months ago
The questions are all good - You will have to check out Zazzles terms and conditions - but I am pretty sure you would be okay - I think zazzle and cafepress allow you to retain your rights - but not sure, you would have to check - we could not accept artwork was if the artwork has been purchased by someone else via contest, commission etc.
And just because we are only selling US to start out with doesnt mean we are looking for US artists only - we will make all payments via paypal - so come one come all!

Sounds great. But theres that little voice in my head that says if it sounds to good to be true it probably is.
Shirt woot works because they have built up a huge amount of traffic. Ill send you an email but Im curious how much traffic youre expecting and if youve ever done something like this before?
jumpy said 5 months ago
oh ive got tees... ill send an email
layne said 5 months ago
I agree with you it will take a while for us to get our traffic up - and the bummer is the artists we print in the first month or two will not make as much as an artist 6 months from now as we will continue to grow and get more traffic. But rest assured we have quite a bit of cool advertising lined up - including a shout out from DBH!
layne said 5 months ago
Right on Jumpy - I really LOVE your style - "Hands Off" for Popdeck was rad!
layne said 5 months ago
Jimiyo - you are the man - really your work is amazing - we are going to make every effort in the world and contact every connection we have to drive traffic - we do have some gurilla marketing techniques we are going to employ - hit up the blogs, myspace, facebook various social networking sites - and yes 24 hours is super short - but thats why it is a bit of a tee fury ;)
The shirt we have chosen to use is the alstyle 1701 - this may change in the future but for now offers a TON of color ways - is soft and comfortable, doesnt shrink (much) and when doing the daily printing we can be guaranteed to get the colors and sizes we need. Also, the price is right for selling a $9 tee
collisiontheory said 5 months ago
Sounds interesting. How big a print can you go?
Tender Branson said 5 months ago
Are you printing these on sort of a "pre-order" basis, as in youll print up what is ordered? And if so, how long will it take for the shirts to ship out?
If not, what are you going to do with all the excess shirts that arent sold?
layne said 5 months ago
Well we can do jumbo prints no problem - but we want to keep the price down at $9 per shirt - so we will go as big as we can without picking up the jumbo prices for screens.
Every shirt design will be sold for 24 hours or until sold out - every run of tees will have a limited number (so designs may very well sell out by noon). We will ship out as close to the order day as possible, but need a day or so to pick and pack. As far as what we are doing with the excess shirts, perhaps stitch them together and make the worlds largest t-shirt quilt in the world!
matthew.harrison.smith said 5 months ago
fury is a good strong term / word
layne said 5 months ago
Not to be confused with Furry ;) although we do have teefurry.com as well which may be fun to create a bunch of hairy, fuzzy oriented designs ;)
Tender Branson said 5 months ago
Sounds like youve got it all worked out well. Cant wait to see the final product. Also, have you considered donating the left over shirts to a good cause?
layne said 5 months ago
You mean quilting is not a good cause?!?! J/K I think donating excess is a very cool idea although we are gong to make every effort to sell all of them - of course, we need to keep some around in case we ship the wrong size, exchanges etc.
quakerninja said 5 months ago
...or you could donate them back to the artist?
RikkiB said 5 months ago
Sounds interesting - what kinda tees are you printing on? (didnt see an answer to that question :)
Are you printing girly tees?
matthew.harrison.smith said 5 months ago
i am really hoping to support "local" artists if possible and if the site works maybe it can reach the level of...
town.craigslist.org
ie.
boise.furytees.com
(you know eventually - we have lots of talented students that just need a heads up)
and where the other users around here hail from or wherever! that way i can feel especially good about putting money back into my own community.
good luck.
jumpy said 5 months ago
Oh sweet thanks :P
Id love to get that printed on a tee... if ur interested. Ill email u when i get home
Reliique said 5 months ago
Site not up yet ? :(
quixotic said 5 months ago
Is this going to be different based on the design or do you know how many youll be printing? If so, how many? I think letting the artist know how many shirts that will be printed would be a good idea since they would want to know how much they could possibly make. I know I wouldnt be all the interested if you were limiting each run to like 30 - 60. I would want more.
layne said 5 months ago
We are putting the final touches on the site right now - we hope to launch in two weeks.
Oh and we would want you to have more! We are hoping daily designs sell anywhere from 500 up to 2000. But just to reiterate the business model, we do not hold any rights to your artwork - so really there is nothing to loose in submitting artwork and seeing how your design does.
hunty said 5 months ago
Welcome to the shirt company. You are in good company (pardon the pun!)
Good luck with everything... Be interested to see how things go! And congrats on the 'we dont own your rights' stance. Weve been like that at Bountee from day one - and I think with something like your site its an absolute bonus!
layne said 5 months ago
Thank you for the support! - we love Bountee! its such an awesome site - excited to see the new beta as well.
ryanmiller said 5 months ago
this actually sounds cool.. and usually i dont like these kinds of sites. i might be submitting something
tboxer854 said 5 months ago
So I assume youre going to be doing all on-demand printing then, especially in the beginning? (i.e. heat transfers)
layne said 5 months ago
All tees will be lovingly screen printed with the softest and most durable plastisol around - featuring very soft hand and vibrant pure colors!
layne said 5 months ago
Hey Ryan - sorry I did not get a chance to respond - please shoot me an email - your work is killer!
collisiontheory said 5 months ago
500 to 2000 sounds like a lot to start with. Is that more like your target down the road? Without the traffic, wouldnt be 50-100 be more realistic?
layne said 5 months ago
Yes I agree sounds like a lot to start with - but we have the capability to deliver on those quantities. But you are 100% correct traffic will be the key.
Cheeto said 5 months ago
Interesting...I cant wait to see the site. A little competition is good for the heart. Cheers
RikkiB said 4 months ago
Hows the site coming along?
abettertomorrow said 4 months ago
9$ a shirt? If you dont sell as much shirts as shirt.woot it will be hard to earn any money on that price.
Acid said 4 months ago
sounds like a good idea but yea, where you guys at?
jsheldon said 4 months ago
curious as to how this will work. Seems like the first artists will get the raw end of the deal since no one really knows about the site yet. I think there should be some type of minimal payout even if its low.
Callum_Green said 4 months ago
This seems like a solid idea,
Cant wait till its up.
edword said 3 months ago
So I was wondering how long it usually takes for you guys to decide on weather to print or not?
ithew said 3 months ago
i am also wondering that...
layne said 3 months ago
Well we us usually decide about a week or so in advance, however we have only been contacting artists the day before we go live - primarily because we are trying to keep the next days design as hush hush as possible -
We are struggling a little with the best way to tell artists we are passing on their artwork for now - we dont want to offend or discourage anyone - thoughts?
wotto said 3 months ago
be honest and up front.
at least then artists can take it elsewhere.
waste82 said 3 months ago
Great idea, cant get my head around $9 a tee with a possible 6 colour print you must be running some mega tight margins.
Good luck!
edword said 3 months ago
well I submitted a design to and havent heard anything so I just figured you didnt want it.
Id say an e-mail saying your not intrested would be fine, doesnt offend or discourage me. Its better then just leaving it up in the air. My 2 cents.
gaunty said 3 months ago
I would have to agree with edword.
lunchboxbrain said 3 months ago
Id prefer to receive a decline email as well.
noFunk said 3 months ago

ithew said 3 months ago

I think its pretty cool a shirt is only available for a limited time making it more unique/rare.
I received J3Concepts in the mail and the quality is great. Soft shirts too.
Im hoping to submit something soon!
jumpy said 3 months ago
yes, i think an email to let us know if you dont intend to use a design... or an email to say youll consider it :)
And i want that J3 tee... ship to australia!!!
layne said 3 months ago
Great thoughts everyone thank you! remever when you submit art to TF - its not ours ;) its yours - so there are no limits or holding or restrictions with us, we look at submissions ad "for your consideration"
ithew said 3 months ago
pee ess...layne
i sumbitted my website to tee fury...but screwed up on the link, added an extra http://
could you fix that for me? Name: matthew skiff
daleedwinmurray said 3 months ago
I agree that a decline email is needed - I subbed one and havent heard anything. It would be cool to know if I can sell it someone else/sub it elsewhere.
layne said 3 months ago
No problem! you are all set!
you can submit your work anywhere you like - its not on hold with us - you always own your rights even if we print one of your designs ;) But I think I will build a little tool to let us easily send a quick not letting folks no if we are going to accept or pass.
daleedwinmurray said 3 months ago
Yeah I understand that - its just if one doesnt hear back from Teefury about a submitted design and eventually sells it to company X and then 3 weeks later gets an email from Teefury saying they are going to print it, company X would be rather annoyed I would imagine. Yaddamean?
i came from nothing said 3 months ago
hi there love to have a design printed
ithew said 3 months ago
Thank you!!!!
4Sevens said 3 months ago
If someone whos been printed at teefury is willing to share the quantity sold/ expected paycheck, Im sure Im not the only person whod be very interested to know. Or Layne, if youre willing to share a ballpark figure or range for low-selling to top-selling designs, please do. I love the site... check it every night. After splurging during the DBH sale its going to be a couple weeks before I let myself buy more t-shirts and actually become a paying customer. Maybe you should take a vote on it, but Ill drop my marble in the bucket for cotton/poly blend as opposed to 100% cotton.
Jon Kruse said 3 months ago
You shouldnt be sending a print ready file to begin with so I dont understand how this problem would occur.
Plus they are going to tell you in advance if its going to be printed. Its not like you havent talked to them at all and theyre printing your shirt with no communication.
