Hey guys,

I have this idea, but I'm not sure the best way to go about it or if anyone would be down for it at all.

Basically, now that I've got HumanBoy's Button Press going, I want to open a little button shop on there where people can pick out a 4 pack of buttons. These will mostly be random designs that I come up with.

However, I was thinking it could be cool to do some special artist series sets or something. But I don't know if any of you would be down or the best way to go about paying the artists for them.

The way I've got it in my head would be to sell a 4 pack at about $3.50. The artist would get 50¢ per button - $2.00 per pack sold. Then at the end of the month, tally how many of their pack sold and then send a payment for that amount.

Does anyone have any ideas on that or think that it's the most ridiculous thing they've ever heard? Give it to me straight - I want to know your opinions.

Yeah, that's one thing I'm trying to think of. I'd want something of decent quality - almost something you'd want to hang on the wall when you took out your buttons. I'm just not sure how to go about doing that. If you have any suggestions, let me know.

I'd love to know how you plan on doing a pack.

for example, with 1.5" buttons, the pin goes far enough back behind the backing that you can easily punch holes for them to stay in (there's even custom hole-punches designed to make life easy).

However, 1" buttons' pins are almost flush with the back, making it nigh impossible to attach them to a flat backing board without bending it.

Are you going to be doing a backing board, or just a sealed bag?

That's one of the things I've been trying to figure out. I'm thinking that I'll probably go with a sealed bag with some backing or something like that.

I'd love any ideas/suggestions though.

Maybe before you get started, ask around and see if buttons sell at all. I see a lot of people giving them away for free when they order other things, that makes me think people don't actually purchase them.

That's a good point. Over at http://quixotic-clothing.com I have a page of just buttons people can buy and I get the occasional just button order.

I don't know if that would increase or decrease if I promoted that site at all though.

My opinion is that if I get some killer artist designed buttons, people would want them as collector pieces. Each artist would want them to sell, so they'd be promoting it, then I'd be promoting it as much as I can too. So I think that they'd do alright.

I don't know if I see anyone making hundreds of dollars each month or anything but a couple extra bucks maybe.

Would you buy a special artist series button pack?
