Should “i" get an "iMac”?

posted 5 months ago by deepee

Hey guys. Contemplating getting an iMac for my birthday. I should be getting the 24" iMac, but not sure if I should. I already do music production, and obviously graphic design. Anyone else got an iMac here? Let me know what you think.

i think today is opposite day in his world.

itll be the best investment ever if you get one next to a wacom and a hot girlfriend. i dont have an imac, but i have a macbook.

its kind of the same, but you know more power, less portability.

I just got a 24" iMac and it’s dudical beyond. Works very well, and it looks great. Windows machines look like garbage, period. Get the iMac you wont regret it.

I used to have an iMac and I loved it. Now I have a MacBook and I love it even more. I don’t know how I ever survived without a laptop.. But a Mac in general is the way to go.

Yea, I plan to buy a MacBook Pro to take on the road if I ever need it. But that will be in a while.

well shit if you dont do anything but use mac-programmed applications then go for it. But I use all kinds of software, and many of them are not mac-compatible. Mac does look better, but they are also more expensive. I do have to say vista sucks tho.

Protip: For designing macs are considered far superior. You can generally always find a mac substitute for any windows program besides games, then you cna always boot into windows for that.

I forgot who, but someone here actually got dissed by a client cause they didn’t use a mac. Shitty clients.

Deepee, I say you should go for it! Everyone I talk to is happy with their macs, and I’m sure it is a wise decision.

Just wondering, I hear people say this often, but why is it exactly? I never get a decent explanation.

I have a macbook and an imac and I’m about to upgrade my imac to the 24' within the next month or so. I’m an apple freak, so my opinion is slightly skewed, but I agree with everyone.

mac loyalism. really, they’re incredibly nice so don’t get me wrong, but i’ve never done better work on one. the sleakness of the interface is the only thing i’ve ever liked more. pc’s are fine if you custom build them and don’t just "get a dell" .. dude.

i’ll probably invest in one someday, but don’t think it’ll give you some magical design edge.

I just hate the way windows works, errrr doesn’t...work.
The Mac OS is just intuitive and everything just works, and is simple. there are a few people on here, Jimiyo being one of them, who hates the Mac OS.
It’s all preference. I’ll never buy a windows based machine ever again though.
and BTW I just have a MacBook. and installing RAM is super easy, all you have to do is take the battery off, unscrew three screws, drop the new RAM in, make sure it clicks and put the holding bar back on and put the battery back in.

Intel Macs can now run Windows, and therefore the programs that Windows runs. SOOOOOOOOOOOOO iMac ftw!!!

I installed 3rd party ram for my laptop and its way easy. just figure out which card is for the ram and swap them. I don’t know how well macs are at detecting new hardware but it should pick it up and install it right away.

hahaha that’s how you do it for most all laptops though, though I don’t have to remove any battery.

I just bought a 24"er imac with an HP printer $99 with $100 rebate and Applecare and all that through the applestore phone and with my wifes education discount. 2.8 Ghz , 4 GB ram, 500 GB harddrive, regular graphics card.

I debated Imac vs. MacBookPro for a while but realized I like keeping most work in a solid location...and then when the 24" screen came out of the box I was VERY happy i got the iMac. I do plan on buying my friend’s macbookpro for cheap just for trips and mobile presentation etc. which so far is rarely neccessary through the year.
Oh and not having a T.V., this thing is amazing for us... I have yet to upload Adobe product but cant wait... Im still using my stinky Dell...:P

oh and i found that buying through Apple it was the same or even cheaper than through ebay... at least for what I wanted...and free shipping...

haha yeah, it’s that simple with any desktop too. unless its archaic.

No one can make this decision for you, you’ll have to just use one and see if you like it enough to spend that kind of cash.

I used a 17" Imac for 3 years then upgraded to a 24" Imac with 4gb of ram and have no complaints, but it’s still up to you and your own personal preference whether or not it works for you and your work load.

If you want to travel with your macbook, you can. If you ever want it to be like a desktop computer, buy a monitor for like 200 or 300 bucks, and there you go.

I would go for a Macbook.

That’s why you dual boot it with Windows

No I have a laptop now and hate attaching a monitor to it, I’d rather not. I’m going for the 3.2 ghz 24" iMac, so I should be getting on July 24th, my birthday :) I’m also getting it for Logic Pro for music production, so thats another reason.

Mac’s are worth the extra cost. Window’s doesn’t compare with OS X.

    Argument ended.
