From Adam Levine CNN WASHINGTON (CNN) — Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Thursday the United States could defend itself against a missile should the North Koreans launch one toward Hawaii. Japanese media reported Thursday that the North Koreans are preparing to make such a launch. Gates said U.S. officials are watching the situation carefully. “We do have some concerns if they were to launch a missile” toward Hawaii, he told reporters. Hawaii has more naval bases than pretty much any other state, if not every other state, and taking those out would severely cripple our navy and make it much harder to launch any kind of offensive against them. Same principle as when Japan attacked us, although that was really a huge mistake. And as heavyprints mentioned, it would be a great place for them to control to attack us from. We could attack Alaska pretty easy if we just went through Canada or whatever, cause we could go by land, but with a crapload of ocean in the way, we'd have to attack by boat or by plane, planes can be shot down and boats would be mostly destroyed if they took out the Pacific fleet anyways. There's some in California and some scattered throughout the Pacific like Somalia and junk, but most of em are concentrated right there.
