Literally.
I was visiting my dad yesterday for "Fathers Day" and he mentioned that he had just started training to run a marathon. He told me I should do it with him, and I accepted! So well be running the "Top of Utah" in Sept.

Adam, good luck , if you need any training tips let me know. I trained for a half before I got serious I-Band syndrome.
1. Drink at least half a gallon- a gallon a day when training, sounds excessive but so neccesary. You might not sweat it all out, but you need water for your muscles to run at full and not get excessive lactic damage.
2. GET GOOOOOOD RUNNING SHOES, not just some 60 dollar nikes, go to a shoe store which will fit your feet and make sure you fit right and have good arch and side support.
3. Dont run too many hills, I know it may sound like hills would be good, but NO. Hills will cause you to get I-Band syndrome like me.
Anything else let me know.

im doing one in november. im training with a guy who did one a few years ago. he trained with the book the non-runners guide to marathon running. its based off a college course from the university of indiana called the marathon course. its a really good read and comes in handy.
do everything truman said, and just take really good care of your body. the number one reason people who want to do marathons never actually do them is because they damage their bodies before the race. dont over do it, and have fun.
my race is in november in richmond, va. this has always been a goal/dream of mine, so im looking forward to all the highs and lows of the whole experience.
best of luck to you sir!

Thanks everybody for the words of encouragement! I went out today and bought a really nice pair of shoes. . .Well I think they are nice, ugly, but comfortable. Ill start running tomorrow. Basically the schedule Ill be doing is running 30 minutes 3 days a week and then running 45 minutes on Saturdays. With the Saturday run increasing by 15 minutes a week.

on two of your off days lift. Pump your upper body and CORE. Having a strong core was something I struggled with and that caused me some grief when running for over an hour. Also working the upper body releases hormones to build muscle which will affect your legs as well.

Im not a big writer so I wont go into details, but here are my results!
