"At the beginning of last year, Cute Is What We Aim For’s management contacted us about doing some merch designs for the band. They informed us the band liked our work, namely a design we did for Counting Crows back in 2004 or 2005 (That design has since been published in a few books, namely Logo Lounge 3 + Letterhead and Logo Design 9 from Rockport Press). After some back and forth over pricing we were informed they were going to concentrate on the merch design in-house and contact us later. We never heard anything back. Just this morning we came across the cover of their new album… coincidence? You decide."

   This is what someone said on you thought we wouldn’t notice

   "This is obviously inspired by the original and a clear case of deciding to cut costs since they were in contact with the artist. However, you own execution, not ideas and the actual execution of this is pretty different (and not as good as the original IMO). Shameful behaviour maybe, but definitely not the direct illegal rip that other posts here show."

   Both look cool, but im sure this isnt the first animal shape to be created from various items and wont be the last.

    look pretty similar...

    the execution is pretty good, but when considering the circumstances it is without a doubt pretty much ripped. I mean if they didnt contact you guys to do it for them before they went ahead, it would still look suspicious.

    But they asked about this in particular, so its pretty much obvious about what they were after.

    Yes because karma totally rules the design world. If that were true the manticores would not exist WOULD I WANT TO LIVE IN A WORLD WHERE THE MANTICORES DO NOT EXIST? I don’t know that is a complicated question.

    This totally blows though! I like the original way better though. Much more creative obviously and way better colors/execution!
