that disappointed me :/ Rant pwned Snuff, methinks.
Randomentity said 5 months ago
im probably half way through that, not as good as his other work. Survivor is far superior. and yeah, Rant was mind bogglingly good. I have a signed limited edition copy. no biggie.
anywho,

Im actually not a big fan of this book. Had it for GDII in college, felt like every time I read something in it, the book was talking down to me. which is ridiculous, its a chopped up tree, it has no right to judge
hyperhyphen said 5 months ago
I will start with fiction, I enjoy a lot reading and this are just some of the last I liked
Dirty But Clean Pierre - YOU MUST read him not only because he got an important award from his first book but also because he is one of us, an ex designer and cartoonist who one day started writing
Torture the artist and Safran Foers novels are also very good
matt901 said 5 months ago
I read Vernon God Little and i really had to work hard to get through it. Dont get me wrong in the end I enjoyed it, i just didnt think it lived up to all the praise that was heaped on it. And the continual use of the word fricken started to grate a little.
hyperhyphen said 5 months ago
It isnt THE BOOK is A book, I just pointed out the fact that is interesting for us because its written by a designer and he did quite a good job considering the fact that many are nothing else than writers and still not at his caliber
Probably I had a different perspective on it considering I am front he old continent :)
hyperhyphen said 5 months ago
Now this is a book I would read, I just came from the childrens library:) I enjoy a lot studying childrens book illustrations (is ok the apostrophe???) and since it seems to be a compulsory read I will look to see if I can get my heads on it
chrisrushing said 5 months ago

The only book you need to read ever is The Road by Cormac McCarthy.
Not really but I was flying from LA to New York and read it in a day in all of its 200 pages EVEN THOUGH IT WAS THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT AND I WANTED TO SLEEP I COULDNT STOP
The man is a fucking artist
mitchbones said 5 months ago
Dune.
Aniast said 5 months ago
That Safran Foer novel is really good. Id also recommend the Best American Non-Required Reading Series. Not only are there tons of really good short pieces in them, but it also supports a really solid non-profit, 826Valencia.

I have the "How to be a graphic designer without losing your soul" book, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone in the design industry. It pretty much tells you step by step how to start a design company and make it work, from copyright to even having the right mentality about the whole ordeal. Great stuff!

My cousin bought this book for me a month or so ago, its a thick read but utterly amazing and insightful. Andrew Carnegie paid the writer for 20 years to write this book. Brilliant book, corny title, I can contest to its worthwhileness.

Dune. Worth mentioning twice :)
I fing love Hitchhikers Guide. Nothing urks me more than someone saying "42!" and not even reading the book.
hyperhyphen said 5 months ago
I just had the chance last week to look over it, and t is surprising, I liked the drawings made out of melted chocolate I think, if you can give me the name of the artist I would be grateful, the book wasnt mine and I forgot the name.
And of the logos collection I have 1 and 3 I missed the 2nd one, but really are great even if on the 3rd one maybe a little bit to much of clipart silhouettes, ribbons and splatters, I expected them to be a little bit ahead and see what is to come :)
I also love
hyperhyphen said 5 months ago
Yes and also the other one Everything is Illuminated they also made the movie that I liked a lot, music in particular.

Just bought "How to be a Graphic Designer Without Losing Your Soul"... really, really cool.
molasses4masses said 5 months ago
The entire Dune series is good. I read them in high school and I am slowly purchasing them all. Ive always loved authors who had enough imagination to create an entire universe.
Let me know what you think about it. I loved it. But then, I got into Zombie culture late (a month ago).
molasses4masses said 5 months ago
I read this and thought it was okay. Of course I couldnt put it down, either. So, I guess I liked it. It kind of reminded me of The Mist (just kind of).

...and for anyone taking their craft beyon t-shirts, 2 indispensable reads:
- a subcription to Communication Arts magazine,
-the Graphic Arts Guild Handbook of Pricing and Ethical Guidelines, available at gag.org. If you can only scrape up enough for one book, buy this one. You will learn much and find multiple opportunities to improve your business as a graphic artist.

if you search torrent, you can actually find the audio, i think by the man himself.
some people dont like that book, because if you arent sincere, its more like
how to manipulate and use people.
still a good read.
