T-shirt Prices ???

posted 12 months ago by allsouledout

i was wondering what you guys think is a fair price for a t-shirt?
how do you establish the price in which you set for your t-shirts?

i realize there are a few factors..

depends on the design as well as the type of shirt it’s printed on.

name brands have recognition and are established so therefore they can obviously can demand more.

cut/sew are higher quality, usually.

i’m asking b/c i set a price of $32 on my Die Hard Teddy tee, do you guys think this is too much?

it’s printed on American Apparel and it’s a 6-color process.

i’ve never been in to price gouging, so i would certainly lower it.

chime in..

hey ezra i’m not sure where i got this from (maybe t-shirtforums.com) but i think a normal practice for retail price would be around 3 times the cost of producing each shirt. So to sell it at $32 , the cost of producing each shirt should at the most be $10.66 (t-shirt/screenprint/label/hangtag/designer fee).

New to the biz so I’m no expert, but I’d heard the same (2x-3x your cost).

BTW, that Die Hard Teddy is cool. I like the logo on the shoes…nice touch.

It really all depends on how many you want to sell and what kind of reputation you want to have. If you price your shirts higher you probably will not sell as many as if you kept your price lower. But if you price your shirts higher, you give yourself an image of a higher quality shirt. Same goes with lower priced shirts. If you go too low people may look at your product as cheap. It’s a fine line. You’ll have to decide for yourself where you want to be. Most people don’t understand the difference in cost of a one color shirt printed on Gildan compared to a 6 color shirt printed on AA. They just see a final price tag.
    Hope that helps

    thanks guys. it does help.

    sentimentaladam,
true ..the consumer does not understand the costs associated with producing the shirt. they only look at the price tag.

    i’ll figure it out.
i’ve never had anyone bark at any prices on my other designs, one-colors, or two-color prints.

i’m wondering if you guys think $32 is too high for the Die Hard Teddy tee?
