so basically printers in the uk seem to be lacking any skill and are so bad at time keeping its becoming practically impossible to work with them plus non will do
any kind of special printing .Were getting charged £5-6.00 ($10-12 dollars) for three colour shirts with a 60 pound ($120) dollar set up charge and waiting 4 weeks or more after payment
so now i am looking into using printers across the pond and id just like some advice mainly quality and shipping costs i understand that the shipping will be high but any help would be a great help

AMEN BROTHER!! I’m not sure where our distributor is getting our stuff done now, i’m sure its being shipped in from the US, but i’ll ask and let you know! Either way with the exchange rate it definitely works to our advantage to get stuff done in America, the shipping isn’t going to cost half of the equivalent that it’d be to get it printed here, so its definitely worth your while dude.

there’s a local printer around here that does some really huge jobs. www.jakprints.com they aren’t too expensive and the quality is generally pretty good. the only problem is they are mostly a large quantity printer, so custom jobs might be difficult to get them to do.

ahhahha you obviously had the same problems especially when you look at some of the tees on here our printers would die,
there also scared of zips ,seams ,collars and anything over 30 cm

jakprints actually overcharges a lot…. they advertise lower pricing but then hit you with other fees and such right before payment is processed.
We send a lot of stuff out to the UK and we can definitely beat the rates by almost half of what you are paying over there. The only thing that will be a little more expensive is shipping.
Check out www.merchspin.com to see some of the work we have done, and then hit me up at chris@merchspin.com
We are never afraid of zips seams and collars just as long as you know that sometimes imperfections may appear due to the difference in the level of material.
Hit me up if you need anything or have any questions!

I’ve heard a few things about jakprints doing that, but then i’ve heard other people swear by them, so who knows…

i totally agree with this…
The quality of printing in the uk is fairly poor…
The dollar is weak at the mo so we might as well take advantage of that!

Thanks, that was real fast!
The only UK printer i’ve really had any luck with is ShirtySomething, they are great guys and top quality printing, its just the UK pricing. I guess its out of their hands as everything here seems to cost so damn much, i’ve gone to Merchspin and an identical order costs less than half what it would from a UK printer, and that includes shipping!

I also do freelance screen-printing for people to make a little money on the side. I do all the shirts for my company (http://www.paperrootclothing.com) and for my friend in town (http://www.rosaloves.com), if you want to see some of the work i’ve done. I don’t really have any pics of all the corporate stuff i’ve done, sorry. No extra charges, just send some artwork and what shirt you want, and you’ll get a price per shirt, no surprise costs. I use all different kinds of inks and techniques, so feel free to hit me up if you need some work.

noFunk said 11 months ago
really? ive always found their quality to be pretty good, better than 'monster' atleast. Ill prob use them again for my next run, i was going to use Mechspin but they dont seem to be very reliable.
also you gotta watch out if you do order form outside the UK, youll be charged a lot at customs when it arrives in the UK!

What about VAT and Duties? It would really suck to get your shirts with VAT and duties tagged on. At any rate though, Im sure the quality, price and speed of shipping would be better and worth it. How would you get around it(VAT & Duties) though?
noFunk said 11 months ago
i dont think theres anyway around it, i read somewhere that people just used to write gift on larger items and it worked but customs caught on and started to charge on anything over a certain size/weight
