Warning: NERDY MARKET SHARE AND ANALYTICAL TALK So Apple just released the new Iphone 3GS as I'm sure most of you have heard. That's not what's going to change the game. The old Iphone is now $99. Think about that for a moment. While that may not seem so revolutionary, try to think really hard about the last smart phone, heck, the last regular phone outside of the ones they sell at walmart that meets that price point. By pricing the Iphone at $99, they have essentially captured all of the laggers who didnt want to adopt when the phone first launched. The only thing Apple has working against them, is that the monthly bills are still insane. If they can offer an all you can eat Data and Voice plan for around $50 to $65, they would have any nay sayers sold, pure and simple. Thing is, I'm still too cheap to pay for the data plan and I feel like all those apps are such a waste of money. Where I live in Massachusetts, at least three out of every four people I talk to has Verizon, and the service is great. I had a two-year renewal and it was refurb. Regardless, I've been an AT&T customer for years, so im happy the iphone's exclusive to them. For example the new one has a magnetic integrated compass which doesn't exist in older models. That means that what they showed regarding the compass app and the google maps feature that shows you which way you are facing will not show up in the older models. Same goes for the camera - the new one can autofocus, white balance and micro mode (it is part of its hardware) which means that the software will not change anything to the old ones.
