...to completely mess with my girlfriend of two years (actually, our anniversary is Friday the 13th - maybe I should get His & Hers STAY TUFFS?), who was a French/Art History double major. No, she doesnt check emptees, the sucker.
Im starting with this audiobook:

Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions for good audiobooks or podcasts for French or languages in general (I could stand to get my Japanese and Mandarin back, and I was great at German in high school), lets do it.
PS - the last time I took French was in elementary school, and my teachers name was Madame Dick. No joke.

Mandarin and Japanese are supposed to be two of the toughest languages to learn, and I did them both for years and lived in both countries, and I did Latin in high school, so Ive got high hopes.

SEIBEI said about 2 years ago
oh word? thanks! I dont have much free time for a tutor right now, though - Im mainly looking for something to occupy my brain at work since I am the screen tech at the print shop and basically just work on my own all day.

所以...你会说国语吗?
Im learning Mandarin right now and Ive found Pimsleur to be of great help. Youre probably already familiar with it, but yeah... Awesome audio-learning method.
SEIBEI said about 2 years ago
sweet, Ive seen plenty of Pimsleur stuff but never given it a shot...all my language training was intense university classes/immersion/etc. xie xie!
Linty Fresh said about 2 years ago
Yeah, its very practical learning. I also like chinesepod, which is a language learning podcast thats super helpful in getting colloquial stuff down. They probably have something similar for French.

word I can vouch for pimsleur... my wifes attempting to learn spanish so my daughter and I dont talk about her behind her back, in front of her face ;)

PS - sorry - I dont have chinese input on here - I havent even reinstalled my Japanese keyboard settings. Im lucky that I understood that simple sentence, though - I used to be fully conversational, but not having to use it for five years has rendered me pretty impotent (ONLY IN TERMS OF THE MANDARIN LANGUAGE, LADIES).
matthew.harrison.smith said about 2 years ago
yay. i like when characters render properly and not as garbage...
im starting to get a little into biblical hebrew. it give a nice lyrical quality to the old testament and is a lot of fun.

ive heard good things about Rosetta stone. havent tried it yet, sill trying to figure out what language i want to learn. brushing up on spanish would be the most practical, but i think japanese or italian would be the most fun.

As a girlfriend myself, Id fully appreciate the work thatd go into this particular caper.

I learned a bunch of spanish from this columbian dude I worked at McDonalds with in highschool. Most of the words that I learned were curses, though. Either that, or how to tell someone to wash the dishes. It was amazing.

I can teach you chinese in less than 2 minutes:
Excuse me, theres no parking here = "NO PAHKING!"
Please leave = "GET OUT!"
This sex is not enjoyable = "WONG HO! WONG HO!"
you are hilarious = "YOU SO FUNNY!"

Im beginning to struggle with arabic, not so much a struggle yet. Learning the alphabet, just think, its what you do in pre-school/kindergarden.

Rosetta stone all the way. I have wanted to secretly learn French for so long since I already pretty much speak Spanish and it would be pretty easy. I wish I could afford rosetta stone

Gameyy mentioned chinesepod.com as a great tool to learn mandarin.
The same company launched FrenchPod a month ago, using the same method and providing entertaining content.
You should give it a try seisei !
