<body> As of late, I have been researching more and more what it really takes to be unique, different, apart from all the normally viewed things in the art world.
I think in order to be a good designer, its important not only to identify trends, but see what will be next.
So with that being said, what are some trends you see, and based on that, in your purely artistic opinion, where do you see it going?</body>

<body> I personally, think that the trends that have been around for a while, (excluding emptees trends, such as Skulls, Zombies, and plain brutal images) are as follows:
1. Watercolor
2. Grunge shirts, Heraldy, Affliction style tees
3. Art that looks like it was done by a 4 year old.
4. All over prints.

  Whats next:

1. I think that pattern based shirts will reemerge, and as I see all over prints as a trend right now, I think it will not simply go away, but move gradually from all over art work to all over patterns.
2. I think that there is going to be a new style of typographically displaying on shirts that is going to take off, maybe cursive shirts, as the big bold letters on text has all but worn out its welcome.
3. I also think that people are going to start shying away from watercolors, and moving to a more, bold grunge look, in between vector and not quite as clean as it normally is.</body>

<body>I for one think that clothing that was once seen as masculine and feminine will crossover to the other gender. astronauts are everywhere. (cat astronauts... are OK. hahah )

sometimes you browse through ffffound or flickr, and you just feel like some designers just gyp all their ideas from there.

<body>This is probably a stupid thing to say, but fuck trends.
I think there is a real danger in always looking at what other people are doing. Same as there is a danger in ignoring it. I think it would tear me asunder if I tried to match wits with what's going on. I can't do it all, I would like to but thats a bad road to take. I would just be ignoring my own personal style, and growth, and shit out bad copies of other peoples stuff all the time.

Even if it's something common like a tiger and people are sick to death of them, they haven't seen My version of it. Maybe I draw tigers in such a fashion that people will say, Man I hate fucking tigers but this is pretty good.

Just be good at what you do, and how you do it, and it won't really matter what it is a drawing of.</body>

<body> Yea, me and my former mentor were discussing the state of design as a whole today, and he, being in his late 30's and having graduated from Art Institute of Atlanta many years ago, feels that the current state of design is "visual garbage". And although I dont completely agree with that branding of it, I understand where he is coming from. There is a lot of art out that is really not difficult in any sense of the word to create, but it is never the less appealing to people because it appears "fun", or "carefree", which I can clearly understand how it carries appeal.
But I do feel that the sense of craftsmanship that once was involved with being an artist is slowly becoming over saturated by a bunch of 13 year old punks who scan some doodles into photoshop, add some color, and consider themselves artists. And im not saying that derogatorily, I started using MSPAINT to make web banners for websites when I was 10 years old. But I also had drive and a desire to learn more about art as a whole, and im still a somewhat sucky artist compared to most, but I have a rather solid understanding of design and its principles, and I think that intimate knowledge of art and the accompanying passion inherent with that is what TRULY makes an artist, and separates the people who love design from people who know how to use a filter in Photoshop. </body>
