i never understood people saying you can’t wear your own stuff. I mean, I never wear my band’s shirts, but I’ll wear shirts that I’ve designed. I like them…hense why I designed them for people to wear.

...especially if you’re trying to familiarize your brand with the public. Why wouldn’t you?? For one, obviously you like it, for two, you get it at cost, and three, it’s free advertisement!

fuck all my other clothes…i’ll never pay $30 for a hurley shirt again, lol

yeah obey is fucking awesome. shepard fairey is one of my favorite artists. i saw his “e pluribus venom” gallery in ny this summer… soooo good, if i had any money, i would have bought a shitload of his work. but i dont have that kinda money to spend.

haha thats lame to think that. I think your friend is getting it confused with “you can’t wear your own bands tshirt”. Thats very metallica’ish.

If you made it, why not wear it? Unless…its something you don’t care for ie. a lame band

Usually if the rest of my clothes are dirty I’ll wear them.. I don’t mind wearing them, I don’t feel lame or anything when wearing my own stuff, haha. My friends give me shit once in a while, but whatevs.

The only t-shirt rule I live by is to never wear a band shirt of the band I am going to see…NEVER!

But, I made a decision when I started working for a t-shirt printer that I would start to try and be more conscious as to what I am wearing and be intentional with what shirt I wear, so naturally, I wear a lot of stuff I design.

    Also its free advertising!

I actually think it’s ok to wear your own band’s shirt, as long as it’s not at your show.

I pretty much wear only my own shirts. I’ve got enough to wear a different one each day of the week, so why not? Free advertising.

I do wear other shirts sometimes too though.

I wear my band shirts all the time, it’s not like people know it’s my band unless they ask what band it is (free advertisement) but I never wear it to a show … that’s just too much ego for one stage. :D

yeah id have to agree with not wearing your own bands shirt to a show… thats just not necessary.

Since the flood gates have opened. Why can’t you wear a band shirt to their concert? I have never understood that rule.
You like them. You are going there in the first place to support them. Why not show your love? Afraid of being a fanboy?

I never do wear them because I get so many glares at the shows. Totally lame.

if its a tee the bands selling on tour, people usually wont glare. Tell em you bought it there. It’s cool to buy the shirt at the show and wear it, just dont wear the shirt to the show. its BS for sure, but kids dont care as much.

    i think?

I dont wear any band shirts really, but if I did, I probably wouldn’t wear my own. Probably because i’m rarely proud of my own work, and i’d rather wear someone elses work that I appreciate more.

I wear my own stuff as much as possible. I once told a person that I printed shirts and they asked me if I had printed the one I was wearing. It wasn’t one of mine, and they asked me if I was so proud of my work, why didn’t I support it? So, yeah, I wear my own stuff regularly.

Lately at the Weakerthans concert I got some admiring looks wearing my “Left and Leaving” shirt bought on their tour in 2000. Weakerthans veteran!
No, there’s ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with that.

    As of own shirts:
I was always a bit timid of wearing the shirts of my band (that I designed), since I was always one to state that only pricks in shitty bands wear their own shirts. Now that we’ve split up and in the end no one took notice of us I wear it with pride. At least it was one great band.

I wear my t-shirts sometimes but not all the time, I need some variety. As for band t-shirts, haven’t worn them for years. Don’t feel the need to have to show everyone my musical tastes.

ok just so you dudes know, wearing your own bands shirt is crucial! its probably the most heavy metal thing you could ever do. extra points for if your band is big enough to print any sort of bottoms (shorts, sweatpants, whatever) so you can actually wear an entire outfit of your own band. DO IT!!!

  29. jfinley - Jeff Finley avatar

I wear stuff I’ve designed if I can actually get one after they’re printed.

    I never understood these rules:

1.) Never wear the shirt of the band you are seeing

2.) Do not wear your own band’s shirts

Why? Can someone explain, or does nobody really know why. Is it tacky? What goes through your mind when you see a band performing and one of the dudes has their own shirt on?

  30. DCAY - DCAY avatar

    DCAY said 11 months ago

It’s hard for me to understand the difference between wearing the shirt of a band you’re going to see compared to buying the band’s shirt at the show and putting it on right then and there. I doubt anyone here does that (myself included), but I see tons of people that do that. Whatever… you should just be comfortable doing whatever you want and fuck what others think/say.

yeah im not sure if anyone really knows why, i feel like its something that people just started blindly supporting. and i agree with dcay that i think you should be doing whatever you want.

I dont think its crazy at all to wear your own bands tee! people usually already know what band you are in anyway so its just like wearing a tee with a funny slogan.

tees are there to be worn, whether they be funny, serious, lame or whatnot.
i mean i have a many, many shirts because thats what i like most of you do for a living. but if you wanna wear it then do it. if you have to worry about what people think of you then why are you in a band in the first place??

oh yeah and i wear my clothing line tees all the time too! thats why i have a clothing line haha!

  33. jfinley - Jeff Finley avatar

Yea firetoscarecrow is right, one of the main reason I want to get my own shirts printed is for myself. Selling them would be a bonus.

both good points.. the only reason i started a company was to make shirts i loved, so why not wear them?

I wear my own stuff all the time. With band tees I do, I normally only wear it if it is AA, can’t really wear the other stuff after wearing AA for so long. With my clothing thing, we print on all AA with waterbased and discharge, so I dig the design and quality, so why not wear it?

i love wearing designs i did… i even have enough celeb status (lol) to have a shirt with my name on it ( which will be up soon) and tons of people love it cuz they know my work.
so i dont think its bad at all to wear your own work.
    be proud !!

helping out people like us is easy and its way better than going down to the local store and picking up a shirt that you KNOW at least 100 people in ure town are gonna be wearing for the weekend!
